Summary
The Fire Private-Recruit trains in fire suppression, combating, extinguishing and preventing fires, answering emergency calls, and in routine maintenance of department equipment, apparatus and quarters. Training involves participation in duties of protecting life and property through the performance of firefighting and rescue activities.
Until the complete application packet (including all required documents) is accepted by the Human Resources Department, you are not considered an applicant and will not be given consideration for the position in the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department.
Step 1: Application and Required Documentation
The following documents are required for consideration for the Fire Recruit position:
Applicants must be able to pass a Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) with the minimum standards listed below.
RUN (TIME LIMIT 14:46 MINUTES):
Wearing helmet and gloves
Instructions will be read to you.
CPAT (TIME LIMIT 6:30 MINUTES):
Once passing the Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT), the applicant must pass the Assessment Center (applicant will be notified of instructions).
Step 4: Applicant has to complete 6 References (3 Professional/3 Personal)
Once this is completed and confirmed, each applicant will be added to the Fire Registry to be considered for an interview with the Fire Chief.

- High School Diploma or GED and/or an official, signed high school transcript
- Birth Certificate
- DD-214 (if prior military)
- College Degree and/or Transcripts and Resumes may be attached
- Valid Driver's License (out of state applicants must have a valid Georgia driver's license before the first date of employment) (a provisional/instructional driver's license nor ID is accepted)
Applicants must be able to pass a Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) with the minimum standards listed below.
RUN (TIME LIMIT 14:46 MINUTES):
- Must run 1.5 miles.
Wearing helmet and gloves
- Must climb 105 ft. extended ladder at a 75-degree angle.
Instructions will be read to you.
CPAT (TIME LIMIT 6:30 MINUTES):
- Ladder Carry: Carry a 14 ft. roof ladder 50 ft., hang on side of building, take down, and carry 50 ft. back to mark.
- Hose Advancement: Advance charged 1 3/4" hose line 50 ft. and place nozzle on mark.
- Hose Evolution: Follow hose line in a darkened area thru confined space prop wearing a nomex hood.
- Victim Rescue Simulator: Drag 185 lb. weighted sled 25 ft. around a cone and 25 ft. back to mark.
- Hose Carry: Carry (2) 2 1/2" hose rolls 25 ft. around a cone and 25 ft. back to mark.
- Tire Chop: Use sledgehammer to hit a tire 50 ft.
- Hoisting Object Simulator: Pull a tire 50 ft. with a rope.
Once passing the Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT), the applicant must pass the Assessment Center (applicant will be notified of instructions).
