JOB SUMMARY
The employee in this classification, under the supervision of the Public Works Commissioner or designee, is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of retention basins, pump stations, storm drains, sanitary sewers and water supply systems. Conducts inspections of facilities, equipment and motor vehicles for preventive and corrective maintenance. Analyzes and evaluates sampling data and treatment processes. Supervises assigned staff. Performs related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the operations, maintenance and repair of retention basins, pump stations, storm drains, sanitary sewers and water supply systems.
Manages, assigns, monitors and evaluates the work of assigned staff in the performance of assigned duties. Maintains appropriate staff levels for operational coverage.
Coordinates and provides staff training to ensure required training is provided.
Conducts inspections of facilities, equipment and motor vehicles for preventive and corrective maintenance.
Analyzes and evaluates sampling data and treatment processes.
Severs as a liaison of the Macomb County Public Works Office on boards, committees and workgroups.
Compiles and prepares statistical information and reports as needed.
Provides public/community relations and educational activities as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education and Experience
  • Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development test
  • Five (5) years of experience operating and controlling storm water pumps and related equipment
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Public Administration, Business Management or a directly related field from an accredited college or university
  • Previous supervisory experience
Required Licenses or Certifications
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and an operable insured automobile for authorized travel
  • Possession of a MDEQ Municipal Class D operator’s license

  • Conduct oneself with tact and courtesy
