What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Science Teacher position at Maclay School?
Middle School Science Teacher
Full Time, 10 Months
Start Date: August 2026
Maclay School is looking for a Middle School Science teacher who combines strong teaching with a genuine care for students. This is someone who knows that middle school learners do their best work when they feel known and supported, and who creates a classroom where curiosity is encouraged and students are pushed to grow.
Who You Are: You are a teacher who believes students learn best through curiosity, inquiry, and active engagement with the world around them. You design science learning experiences that develop conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and a sense of wonder. You know how to guide students in asking meaningful questions, designing investigations, and making sense of evidence.
You enjoy helping middle school students build confidence as thinkers and problem-solvers, supporting them as they take intellectual risks and engage in productive struggle. You understand that strong science instruction balances hands-on exploration with clear structures and purposeful reflection.
You believe great teaching is both collaborative and iterative, and you’re energized by opportunities to learn, reflect, and grow with a team. Above all, you find deep fulfillment in helping students see themselves as capable scientists who are curious about the world and equipped to understand it.
