Gluer Operator

Role Overview

This position is vital to our manufacturing success, focusing on the precise setup, maintenance, and efficient operation of equipment to uphold our rigorous standards for safety, quality, and output. You will be instrumental in optimizing machine performance, managing changeovers, documenting production metrics, and fostering a tidy, productive workspace.

Core Responsibilities

• Execute or support product changeovers to accommodate various manufacturing requirements.
• Help maintain consistent production speeds and quality benchmarks by proactively identifying and resolving equipment malfunctions.
• Adjust machine settings and controls to ensure optimal performance across all operational components.
• Mentor and guide feeders and packers in high-speed operational techniques to improve overall team efficiency.
• Perform necessary component replacements, such as belts, based on preventive maintenance schedules or immediate repair needs.
• Collaborate with technical staff and incoming shift personnel to facilitate seamless information exchange regarding zone status.
• Contribute to the development of standardized operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and work instructions.
• Monitor tape machines within the zone to ensure they remain functional and free of obstructions.
• Manage the parts inventory cage to ensure essential components are organized and readily available.
• Coordinate with material handlers to guarantee that packers and feeders have a continuous supply of raw materials.
• Perform additional tasks as requested by management.

Documentation and Reporting

• Log scrap data accurately within the SAP system.
• Assist in categorizing downtime reasons within the MIIR system.
• Complete all necessary line documentation and record data on designated forms.
• Provide clear, timely updates regarding machine performance and production challenges to supervisors.

Maintenance and Housekeeping

• Organize and maintain all production materials and supplies within the work zone.
• Execute sanitation and housekeeping duties to ensure the work area remains orderly and safe.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; trade school education is considered an asset.
• Minimum of three years of relevant experience or a background in fast-paced multitasking, including at least six months of machine operation; experience in paper packaging is preferred.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the effective use and handling of various hand tools.
• Possess the ability to interpret and follow internal quality protocols, safety guidelines, and operational manuals.
• Maintain clear communication channels with supervisors and colleagues regarding operational status.
• Apply basic mathematical skills, specifically counting, to daily tasks.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees are required to wear steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and safety glasses with side shields, with additional PPE provided for specific tasks. Please note that our manufacturing facility is not climate-controlled, meaning temperatures and humidity levels will fluctuate seasonally. The role demands frequent use of hands and arms for grasping and positioning materials, involving repetitive motions and reaching. You will spend significant time standing, with regular requirements to bend, twist, and stoop while moving throughout the facility. Occasional physical tasks include climbing stairs, pushing or pulling equipment, and lifting items up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity requirements include depth perception, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to focus at various distances.
