What are the responsibilities and job description for the Generator Technician position at MacAllister Machinery Co., Inc.?
Keep the Power On. Lead From the Front. Build What Others Rely On.
When critical systems can’t fail—when hospitals, data centers, utilities, and businesses rely on constant power—you’re the expert they call.
At MacAllister Machinery, we’re looking for a Level IV Generator Technician who thrives on solving complex problems, working independently, and mentoring the next generation of technicians. This isn’t an entry-level role. This is a seat at the table for someone who has spent years mastering diesel engines, generators, switchgear, and transfer systems—and wants their experience respected and put to meaningful use.
Why This Role Is Different
As a Level IV generator technician, you’re not handed a checklist—you’re trusted to diagnose, decide, and deliver.
You’ll work on advanced generator systems, tackling challenging mechanical and electrical issues that require real expertise. You’ll own your work from start to finish, ensuring systems run safely, efficiently, and reliably for customers who depend on you to get it right the first time.
Just as important, you’ll play a leadership role—mentoring junior technicians, setting the standard for quality and professionalism, and helping build a team that takes pride in exceptional workmanship.
Troubleshooting and repairing generators, engines, switchgear, and transfer systems
- Solving complex mechanical and electrical challenges in real-world environments
- Delivering clear, accurate service documentation and recommendations
- Working independently with limited supervision—your expertise drives the approach
- Supporting customers by meeting deadlines and maintaining high service standards
- Mentoring less-experienced technicians and sharing hard-earned knowledge
Who Thrives Here
This role is built for technicians who:
- Have deep experience in engine or generator environments
- Take pride in solving problems others can’t
- Enjoy autonomy and accountability
- Value safety, precision, and doing things the right way
- Want to pass their knowledge on—not just punch a clock
If you’ve spent years refining your craft and are ready to step into a role where your experience truly matters, you’ll feel at home here.
Why MacAllister Machinery
MacAllister isn’t just another equipment dealer—we’re a long-standing, respected organization that values craftsmanship, teamwork, and customer trust. You’ll be supported with the tools, resources, and backing you need to do your job well, while still having the freedom to operate like the expert you are.
Requirements:
- High School or GED
- Certification in Diesel Technology
- Advanced knowledge of complex engines/generator/etc
- 12 years of customer service experience
- 12 years of experience in an engine shop environment
- 3 years of supervisory experience
- Proficiency with relevant software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, design tools, coding languages)
