Position Summary
As our Accountant, you are responsible for financial accounting, budgeting, and government reporting. The task includes regular QuickBooks transactions and reporting; federal financial reports; and annual uniform guidance audits. You will be able to work independently and follow guidance. This is an excellent opportunity to learn and to grow as a financial professional who can make a meaningful impact in scaling technology from laboratory to market.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Reporting
- Manage transactions within QuickBooks Online (QBO), perform accurate data entry, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Prepare quarterly financial statements, reports, and forecasts with variance analysis
- Bi-Annual presentation and reporting of financial statements to management
- Maintain organized financial files and documentation systems for audit and managerial accounting
Payroll & Compliance
- Process bi-weekly payroll for multiple states accurately and on schedule
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Stay current on changes to tax laws and employment regulations
Expense Management
- Review, classify, and allocate expenses across departments and projects
- Monitor budget performance and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Support cost control initiatives through detailed expense analysis
Audit Preparation & Support
- Prepare financial records and supporting documentation for internal and external audits
- Serve as the primary liaison with auditors to facilitate smooth audit processes
- Implement and maintain audit-ready financial systems and procedures
Government Accounting Expertise
- Apply specialized knowledge of government accounting standards (GAAP, GASB)
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to government funding
- Manage grant accounting, invoicing, and reporting requirements
- Communicate with grant administrator to ensure timely reimbursement
Federal, State and International Tax Preparation and Filing
- File state and federal taxes in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with tax accountants globally to ensure compliant and timely filings.
- Execute and monitor tax credit payment requests.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience: 0-3 years accounting in research, development and demonstration operation and/or project cost accounting.
- Technical Skills:
Proficient with QuickBooks Online or equivalent and payroll systems.
Able to follow guidance and directions for auditing and financial reporting.
Able to self-check work to avoid errors.
Able to organize and work efficiently.
Disciplined and punctual in reporting to work on time.
- Knowledge/experience of government accounting is desirable.
