What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse (ER/ED) position at Ma'at Enterprises?
Currently seeking Registered Nurses to support the Emergency Room department for the Bemidji Area Health Services; service sites will include Cass Lake, Red Lake and White Earth.
Requirements:
- Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
- Licensure: Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, must possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Certification: BLS/ACLS
- Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen.
General Duties:
- Shall utilize electronic health records and available biomedical equipment.
- Performance of duties shall meet The Joint Commission standards and procedures.
- All procedures shall comply with RLH infection control and safety procedures, practices, and standards.
- The RN shall capable of performing work independently.
- New medical procedures/services shall not be introduced without prior recommendation to, and approval of, the RLH authorized representative.
- Shall perform a full range of services in his/her specialty including the most difficult cases.
Major Duties: Registered Nurse – Emergency Room
- Shall have 36 months of nursing experience with minimum of 2 years of experience in an emergency room setting;
- Provide comprehensive emergency room nursing care to patients based on nursing assessment and on the physician's medical plan of care;
- Provides nursing care to meet the needs of the patient, by means of direct care and teaching;
- Initiates appropriate measures, for example, takes resuscitation measures in case of cardiac or respiratory arrest;
- Operates and monitors specialized equipment such as resuscitation units, cardiac monitors, ventilators (portable), defibrillators, pulse oximeter, infusion pumps, IVACs, and warning devices;
- Administer therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician such as medications, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, treatments and procedures;
- Prepares patient, completes or assists as appropriate during procedures, and evaluates results;
- Reviews and interprets findings to distinguish between normal and abnormal conditions such as assesses and determines those situations that are life threatening emergencies, acute states that could result in an emergency; recognizes potential changes such as fluid and drugs side effects.
- Recognizes life-threatening conditions that require immediate attention of emergency room provider and responds accordingly;
- Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of standards of care, quality assurance and infection control activities.
- Troubleshoots malfunctions and makes simple repairs or identifies need for external service.
- Is familiar with and follows all written procedures and policies including ER technical procedures, safety, and blood-borne pathogen policy.
- Participates in ER proficiency testing.
- Documents observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered and status of coordinated activities between nursing and other professional disciplines utilizing the problem oriented record system.
- Assists in keeping the ER area neat and orderly.
- Shall be knowledgeable and perform services using infection control practices in accordance with accreditation standards, IHS policy and procedures, and other regulating agencies and laws.
- Shall use personal protective equipment to protect patient and personnel from exposure to infectious disease as appropriate.
- Knowledge of quality control, proficiency testing, and quality assurance to assure the reliability of the data reported.
- Skill in interpreting and evaluating the results of test/examinations in process and upon completion in order to recognize anticipated reactions and departures from the norm.
- Repeats tests/examinations if results provide improper or imprecise outcomes and reports recurring abnormalities and deviations to the Department Lead.
- Skill in calibrating and operating analytical instruments sufficient to independently perform recurring tests and analysis.
- Knowledge and ability necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Ability to identify, categorize, and perform ER services to address each patient’s age-specific needs (pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
- Provides services in a professional and respectful manner when dealing with patients and colleagues.
