Starting Wage Range: $27.05/hr. - $34.95/hr.
Job Summary:
Provides peer support services to families and youth engaged with the Children & Family Service Program. Support will focus on engaging with parents, care providers, and youth to enhance their recovery and maintain cultural connections. Ensures the services takes place in a professional, non-bias environment and is accomplished in an efficient and respectful manner that is rooted in Trauma Informed Care.
Essential Functions:
- Openly identifies as a person who has lived the experience of receiving addiction recovery services.
- Acts as a positive role model for individuals being served, showing a recovery and healthful lifestyle orientation. Shares own recovery story with individuals being served when appropriate.
- Acts as advocate for individuals working with Children & Family Services, both within the organization and also with other entities.
- Provides and promotes a strengths-based, trauma-informed, person-centered approach to assisting individuals being served in achieving goals.
- Participates in outreach efforts to engage individuals with appointments, resource referrals, cultural events, and work in the community.
- Assists with screenings, intakes, treatment plans, discharges, and reengagement.
- Assists with prison and post-treatment re-entry plans working with judicial systems, health, and social services team.
- Provides transports to various appointments, cultural opportunities, and other community resources.
- Assists with drug/wellness court processes and obligations.
- Assists with case management and collects program-related data.
- Networks with community agencies, health, housing, and education programs and with outside agencies and organizations to assist with accessing supports and services.
- Attends interdepartmental and interagency meetings.
- Assists with informing best practices within the Children & Family Services Program to identify ways to continue lowering barriers to treatment and improving outcomes for the youth and families being served.
- Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Requires two (2) years of experience with addiction recovery services.
- Certified Recovery Mentor or Peer Support Specialist by the State of Oregon or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
- One of the following required in order to meet the definition of Peer as defined by the State of Oregon Administrative Rule:
- Self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services
- Self-identified person in recovery from a substance abuse disorder, who meet the abstinence requirements for recovering staff in alcohol and other drug treatment programs.
- Family member of an individual who is a current or former recipient of addictions or mental health services
- If a recovering chemically dependent person must be in a program of recovery and able to provide documentation of sobriety for a minimum of two years.
- OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Driving Requirements:
- Must maintain a valid Oregon driver's license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe's vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.

- Must have knowledge of the effects of trauma, coping, and other aspects of the lives of those served.

- Proven ability to work independently and interpret policies and procedures, under pressure with little or no supervision.
- Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
- Ability to work with all levels of individuals, including disgruntled people in an effective manner.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of computer software such as Word, Excel, and related programs.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (i.e. copier, fax machine, personal computer).
- Excellent interpersonal skills oral and written.
- Requires strong commitment to accurately completing task, solving problems, demonstrating initiative, organization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to speak before an audience effectively; compile written reports; read and interpret various documents; and obtain the cooperation of Tribal programs.
- Proven ability to work independently and interpret policies and procedures, under pressure with little or no supervision required.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture is required.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
- Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
- Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
- Occasionally requires lifting of up to 40 pounds.
This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan.
Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
- May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
- Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
