Role Description The Sr. Estimator is a full-time, on-site role located in Ashland, VA, responsible for leading the preparation of accurate and competitive estimates for commercial construction projects. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing plans and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, analyzing subcontractor and supplier quotes, and developing detailed cost estimates and bid proposals. The Sr. Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and leadership to refine budgets, assess project risks, and support preconstruction planning. This role also involves maintaining historical cost data, improving estimating tools and processes, and participating in client meetings to clarify scope and expectations. The Sr. Estimator is expected to uphold the company’s “Build It Like You Own It” philosophy in all estimating activities.
Qualifications
- Strong estimating and preconstruction skills, including quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and bid proposal development for commercial projects.
- Proficiency with construction estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and Microsoft Office, Ai (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, building codes, and subcontractor trades.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities to evaluate project scope, risks, and value-engineering options.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with owners, design teams, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple estimates, deadlines, and shifting priorities.
- Relevant experience as an estimator or Sr. Estimator in commercial construction; experience with land development or design-build projects is beneficial.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
