What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Surveyor position at Lyons & Hohl Site Contractors?
Construction Surveyor (Experienced) — Southeastern Pennsylvania
You already know the trade. You can walk onto a site with a set of civil plans, catch a problem before it turns into a change order, and set grade without someone standing over your shoulder. That's who we're looking for.
Lyons & Hohl is hiring an experienced construction surveyor for full-time, year-round layout work: roads, utilities, and building pads, running a total station and GPS gear that keeps the job on grade. Strong math still matters, but what we actually need is judgment, the kind that only comes from years behind the instrument. You'll read plans, redline what doesn't match the ground, and work alongside a crew that respects the experience you're bringing with you.
If you've put in the years and want work that uses them, this is worth a look.
What you'll be doing
Setting control, staking roads off centerline and stationing, laying out water, storm, and sanitary utilities to grade, and running foundation and pad layout across residential development sites, sometimes all in the same week. You'll be the one who catches it when a pipe crossing on paper is about to be a real conflict in the trench, and the one whose numbers the crew trusts without double-checking.
What you bring
Three to five-plus years of hands-on construction layout, not boundary work alone. Real comfort with road, utility, and pad staking. Total station and GPS proficiency, and the ability to read and redline civil plans without hand-holding. A valid driver's license and the willingness to work outside in every season Pennsylvania throws at you. CST certification and OSHA cards are a plus, not a requirement.
New this fall: on-site daycare
Starting this fall, Lyons & Hohl is opening an in-house, company-operated daycare for our team, offered at a significantly discounted rate and built around our actual hours of operation. If you've ever had to choose between a job you're good at and childcare that works with your schedule, this may change things for you.
Why people stay
We were founded in 1978 and have grown to more than 100 people, and a lot of them have been here a long time. People join Lyons & Hohl for a career and stay for the relationship. Lifelong employees work side by side with new hires, and the skilled team members here are our best recruiters, because they're the ones who talk their friends into applying. This isn't a job where you're a number on a spreadsheet. It's one where the people around you actually know your name and have your back.
401(k) with company match. We manage the plan ourselves and match a portion of your weekly contributions, because your financial security shouldn't end when your time here does.
Profit sharing. When the company does well, everyone shares in it, added directly to retirement accounts, with cash bonuses distributed when possible on top of that.
Paid vacation and holidays. Up to three weeks of paid vacation, so there's real time to spend with the people who matter to you.
Health insurance, with an additional company contribution to your HSA in years the company performs well.
This is full-time, year-round work in southeastern Pennsylvania. If you've got the years and the judgment to match, we want to talk to you.
