Youth & Community Prevention Coordinator

Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau (LYSB) – Old Lyme, CT

Are you an organizer, communicator, and relationship-builder who wants to make a difference in the lives of young people?

Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau (LYSB) is seeking a Youth & Community Prevention Coordinator to lead the Lyme-Old Lyme Prevention Coalition and manage our recently renewed five-year federal Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grant.

This is a dynamic community-based position focused on preventing youth substance use and promoting youth mental health and well-being. The Coordinator brings together youth, parents, schools, municipal leaders, and community organizations to identify needs and implement strategies that help young people make healthy choices and thrive.

The focus of this position is community-level prevention, education, engagement, and systems change (not treatment)

What You'll Do

  • Lead and coordinate the Lyme-Old Lyme Prevention Coalition
  • Manage LYSB's federal Drug-Free Communities grant
  • Develop and implement community-level youth substance use prevention strategies
  • Lead and engage a Youth Coalition and supervise Youth Advocates
  • Build partnerships with schools, parents, municipal leaders, community organizations, and other stakeholders
  • Plan community and school-based programs, educational events, awareness campaigns, and outreach
  • Create engaging communications and social media content for youth, parents, and the community
  • Use community data to identify needs, develop strategies, and evaluate results
  • Manage grant budgets, reporting, documentation, and other federal grant requirements
  • Represent LYSB and the Coalition at community events, meetings, and trainings

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is organized, creative, engaging, and comfortable working with many different people—from teenagers and parents to school administrators, community volunteers, and town leaders.

Strong candidates may come from a variety of professional backgrounds, including public health, prevention, youth development, education, social work, behavioral or mental health, community engagement, nonprofit programming, communications, or project/grant management.

We are especially interested in candidates who bring strong transferable skills, enjoy building relationships and leading projects, and are excited to learn.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong project-management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to engage effectively with both youth and adults
  • Comfort with public speaking, presentations, meetings, and community outreach
  • Ability to attend occasional evening and weekend events
  • Valid Connecticut driver's license

Experience with prevention, coalition work, youth programs, community initiatives, grants, or project management is a plus. Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) credential is preferred but not required. LYSB will support the successful candidate in working toward certification.

Benefits include partial health insurance reimbursement, paid vacation, sick and personal time, a flexible work schedule, and the possibility of some remote work.

The position is primarily based at LYSB in Old Lyme, Connecticut.
