Project Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer - Irvine, CA
A well-established geotechnical engineering firm based in Irvine, CA is seeking a motivated and experienced Project Geologist or Geotechnical Engineer to join their growing team. The Role
As a Project Geologist/Geotechnical Engineer, you will manage and execute geotechnical investigations from initial scoping through report delivery. You will coordinate field programs, oversee drilling and sampling operations, perform engineering analyses, and prepare geotechnical reports with foundation, grading, and earthwork recommendations. You will work across a variety of project types including residential and commercial land development, infrastructure, public works, and private sector clients.
Responsibilities
- Plan and manage subsurface investigation programs including coordination of field crews, drilling contractors, and laboratory testing
- Perform geotechnical analyses including bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, seismic/liquefaction, and lateral earth pressure
- Prepare and review geotechnical reports, grading plan reviews, and letters of compliance
- Provide construction observation and inspection support, including compaction testing oversight
- Collaborate with project teams, clients, and municipal agencies throughout project lifecycle
- Mentor junior staff and support proposal development
Qualifications
- BS or MS in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical), Geology, or related field
- 4-10 years of experience in geotechnical consulting; Southern California experience preferred
- PE, GE, or PG licensure (or active pursuit thereof) strongly preferred
- Proficiency with geotechnical software such as gINT, LPile, GeoStudio, or equivalent
- Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and communicate effectively with clients
