Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Project Manager - Baltimore, MD
This is a hands-on, client-facing role offering a mix of project management, technical oversight, and team leadership across a diverse portfolio of commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects.
The Role
You will take ownership of construction materials testing and geotechnical projects from start to finish, managing field operations, technical delivery, and client relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing multiple CMT and inspection projects (concrete, soils, foundations, pavements, structural elements)
- Supervising, scheduling, and mentoring field and lab technicians
- Reviewing daily field reports for accuracy, completeness, and QA/QC compliance
- Coordinating field testing, special inspections, and laboratory analysis in line with ASTM, ACI, and DOT standards
- Conducting site visits, inspections, and occasional hands-on testing when needed
- Communicating with clients, contractors, and internal teams to resolve construction issues
- Preparing proposals, scopes, budgets, and cost estimates
- Monitoring project financials, including invoicing, profitability, and backlog management
- Attending client meetings, pre-construction meetings, and site progress meetings
- Supporting geotechnical tasks where required (test pits, borings, soil classification, report input)
Requirements
- BS or MS in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related
- 4-8 years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, or related field
- Experience managing CMT projects and overseeing field teams
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials testing, and inspection standards
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Proven experience managing budgets, schedules, and client relationships
- Valid driver's license and willingness to visit project sites regularly
- Ability to work occasionally outside standard hours and lift field equipment when required
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT or PE (or actively working towards licensure)
- Industry certifications such as ACI, ICC, NICET, or similar
- Experience with both geotechnical and CMT project scopes
- Prior experience with proposal writing and business development
