Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Project Manager to support the successful delivery of heavy civil infrastructure projects based out of Carlsbad, California. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a construction professional looking to advance their career while working on complex public and private infrastructure projects throughout Southern California.
The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following disciplines:
- Underground Wet Utilities
- Underground Dry Utilities
- Heavy Road/Highway Construction
- Rail
Experience with self-perform dirt work is mandatory for this position.
- Assist Project Managers with the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects from inception through completion.
- Support project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control efforts.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and field operations.
- Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, and other project documentation.
- Track project production, quantities, and progress against schedules and budgets.
- Work closely with Superintendents and field teams to ensure efficient project execution.
- Assist with procurement and material management activities.
- Maintain positive relationships with owners, engineers, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and contract obligations.
- Support project closeout activities and final documentation.
- Minimum of 3 years of construction experience in one or more of the following disciplines:
- Underground Wet Utilities
- Underground Dry Utilities
- Heavy Road/Highway Construction
- Rail Construction
- Required experience with self-perform dirt work operations, including grading, excavation, earthwork, trenching, and related field activities.
- Experience supporting construction projects in a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of project controls, scheduling, cost tracking, and construction documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, contracts, and utility drawings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Candidates must possess a clean driving record.
- Candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check and possess a clean criminal record.

- Experience working for a heavy civil contractor performing self-perform work.
- Public works infrastructure experience.
- Knowledge of underground utility construction methods and earthwork operations.
- Familiarity with scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Salary : $90,000 - $135,000
