The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for building, supporting, and sustaining meaningful volunteer partnerships that enhance the mission of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI). The coordinator will support current partnerships, develop new ones, and strengthen relationships between programs, volunteer groups, individual volunteers, and the Advancement staff. The work schedule is flexible and within normal weekday daytime work hours.

- Maintain and support existing volunteer group partnerships which consist primarily of church volunteers.
- Develop new volunteer group partnerships.
- Coordinate and lead volunteer projects for companies and groups as assigned.
- Support Associate Board efforts, including assisting with recruitment, projects, and planning meetings.
- Responsible for tracking volunteer participation.
- Responsible for tracking and supporting annual Backpack and Christmas collection projects, and other projects as assigned.
- Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individual in a dignified, respectful, honest, and fair manner.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Background check clearance required.
- Experience working with volunteers, or similar work experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, lead, and coordinate volunteer projects from start to finish preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent organization, presentation, and pc/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects preferred.
- Experience working with both church and corporate audiences preferred.
- Familiarity with LSSI’s work and mission preferred.
- Valid driver’s license, in good standing for the state of residency required.
- Access to reliable transportation required.
- Valid IL statutory minimum liability insurance coverage, bodily injury and property damage required.
