Cook (Part-Time with Full-Time Potential
Pay Rate: $17.05 – $24.53 per hour
Job Type: Part-time (with options to expand to Full-Time by assisting with housekeeping)
Location: In-person (Camp & Retreat Center)
Shifts: 4 or 8-hour shifts | Day & Evening availability
About the Role
Are you passionate about cooking delicious meals and thriving in a vibrant, fast-paced kitchen? Our camp and retreat center is seeking a dedicated Cook to join our team! In this role, you will play a crucial part in crafting mouthwatering dishes for campers and guests of all ages. Working independently or alongside another cook, you will have the unique opportunity to work with farm-fresh, seasonal ingredients grown right here on-site. Key Responsibilities
- Meal Preparation: Prepare and cook a diverse variety of dishes following established menus, recipes, and guest preferences.
- Farm-to-Table Collaboration: Partner with our Garden Director to incorporate fresh, seasonal crops into daily meals.
- Kitchen Operations: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, ensuring proper storage of ingredients and equipment.
- Safety & Quality: Strictly adhere to food safety, hygiene, and portion control standards to minimize waste and ensure high-quality production.
- Teamwork & Innovation: Collaborate with the kitchen crew for smooth, timely service and assist in developing and testing exciting new menu items.
Position Requirements
- Experience: Proven experience working in a kitchen environment with a solid grasp of culinary techniques, ingredients, and spices.
- Certifications & Checks: Must be 18 or older, able to pass a background check, and capable of obtaining a Food Handlers Card.
- Skills: Excellent time management, strong attention to detail, and top-notch communication skills.
- Pace: Ability to stay calm, focused, and effective in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
Physical & Essential Functions
- Stamina & Strength: Must possess the physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift/carry up to a 50 lb. bag for at least 20 feet.
- Logistics: Ability to unload, transport, and properly store food, supplies, and dishes.
- Equipment & Safety: Safely operate electrical and mechanical kitchen equipment.
- Quality Control: Ability to visually and sensorially assess the cleanliness of surfaces, dishes, and the freshness/condition of food.
