Position Summary:

 The Controller is a key member of the finance team, responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls within the organization. The Controller will work closely with the CFO/COO and senior management to ensure the financial health of the organization, support strategic decision-making, and drive financial efficiency across multiple dealership locations. This is a full-time, in office position, located in our corporate offices in Golden Valley, MN.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Management & Reporting:
  • Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, inventory, and fixed assets.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the monthly and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Budgeting & Forecasting:
  • Lead the development of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
  • Analyze variances between actual results and budget/forecasts, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Work closely with department heads to monitor and manage financial performance, driving cost control and profitability.
• Internal Controls & Compliance:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws, including sales tax and income tax reporting.
  • Coordinate and manage annual audits with external auditors.
• Cash Flow & Treasury Management:
  • Oversee cash flow management, including monitoring and forecasting cash positions.
  • Manage banking relationships and ensure efficient treasury operations, including credit facilities and financing arrangements.
• Team Leadership:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities for process optimization and automation within the finance function.
  • Provide training and support to dealership managers on financial processes, policies, and best practices.
• Strategic Initiatives:
  • Support the CFO/COO and executive team in strategic planning initiatives, including acquisitions, divestitures, and expansion plans.
  • Conduct financial analysis to assess the profitability of new ventures and capital investments.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a controller or similar leadership role.
• Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with dealership management systems (DMS) is highly desirable.
• Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and develop a finance team, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Compliance: In-depth knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and tax regulations.
• Personal Attributes: High level of integrity, strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
