Position Summary
The Service Manager plays a pivotal leadership role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the service department. This individual will manage people, scheduling, customer communications, and departmental performance. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on — comfortable leading from the office while also stepping into the field to work with service technicians when needed.
This position reports to the General Manager and will directly oversee the service technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the Service Department, managing a team of skilled service technicians.
- Provide clear direction, training, and accountability to ensure efficiency, quality, and professionalism.
- Serve as the gatekeeper for the service department — ensuring proper task prioritization and execution.
- Manage service scheduling, work orders, and client communication to ensure timely and effective responses.
- Maintain strong customer relationships by addressing issues promptly and ensuring service excellence.
- Allocate labor and resources effectively to meet service demands and deadlines.
- Oversee proposals, estimates, and service orders for accuracy and profitability.
- Monitor department performance metrics and recommend process improvements.
- Work in the field as needed — handling urgent service calls, supporting technicians, and leading by example.
- Collaborate with department heads (Sales, Construction, Water Management, Administration) to maintain operational alignment.
- Report departmental updates, staffing needs, and performance outcomes to company leadership.
- Contribute to long-term planning and process development within the organization.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in service operations, field management, irrigation, landscaping, or a related construction/service industry or licensed trade such as electrician, plumbing, HVAC
- Strong leadership and people-management skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Comfort with technology and scheduling software tools.
- Hands-on approach with willingness to jump into the field when necessary.
- Relevant technical training, certification, or degree preferred but not required.
