Hardware Engineer – New York City Suburbs
Overview
A rapidly growing technology company in the New York metro area is seeking an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer to drive the design, development, and validation of advanced electronic hardware. This role involves working across multidisciplinary teams to support next-generation platforms that integrate classical electronics with emerging photonics technologies. You will lead hardware efforts from concept through production, contributing to a fast-paced and highly technical environment.
Responsibilities
- Design complex electronics and multi-layer PCBs using Altium or similar ECAD tools.
- Develop hardware for systems that combine traditional electronics with cutting-edge photonic architectures.
- Perform board- and system-level testing on ADCs, DACs, FPGAs, timing circuits, and other critical components.
- Collaborate closely with firmware, software, and research teams to support lab bring-up and platform validation.
- Work with contract manufacturers to manage prototype builds, address production issues, and implement design revisions.
- Create and maintain documentation throughout the hardware lifecycle, including theory of operation, manufacturing packages, and validation/test reports.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 5 years of experience, or MS with 3 years.
- Strong background in PCB development: schematic capture, layout review, DFM, DFT, DFA, SI/PI considerations, and EMI/EMC practices.
- Solid analog, power, and digital circuit design skills, including experience with regulators, SMPS, and LDOs.
- Experience designing with op-amps, TIAs, filters, microcontrollers, memory, and digital logic.
- Proficiency with SPICE-based circuit simulation tools.
- Familiarity with common digital interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN.
- Strong hands-on lab skills: oscilloscopes, analyzers, DMMs, and general bring-up/debug instrumentation.
- Ability to write scripts or software in C, C , Python, MATLAB, or comparable languages.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- Experience with FPGAs, embedded processors, DSPs, and high-speed interfaces including USB, PCIe, and Ethernet.
- Background in optoelectronics, RF/mixed-signal design, or regulatory compliance (CE, FCC).
- Exposure to ASIC integration, FPGA/SoC validation, or low-level firmware development in C, Verilog, or VHDL.
