Job Summary

Join our dynamic team as an Experienced Underground Utility Laborer and become a vital part of infrastructure development and maintenance. In this role, you will assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utility systems such as water and sewer lines. Your energy and expertise will help ensure safe, efficient, and reliable utility services for communities. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to work outdoors in diverse environments while contributing to essential public works projects.

Duties

  • Assist with the excavation and trenching for underground utility installations following detailed construction plans and blueprints.
  • Operate heavy machinery including dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, and front loader trucks to move materials and prepare work sites efficiently.
  • Support pipe installation activities using pipe lasers and other precision tools to ensure accurate placement of sanitary sewers, water systems, and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Perform concrete finishing tasks such as forming and pouring concrete for manholes, catch basins, or other structures related to utility systems.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to accurately follow project specifications for sewer line installation, utility trenching, and pipeline layout.
  • Conduct utility locating using specialized equipment to identify existing underground utilities before excavation begins.
  • Follow all safety regulations including federal construction safety standards to maintain a safe work environment on-site at all times.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in construction site work or utility installation projects is preferred but not required; willingness to learn is highly valued.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, forklifts, and front loader trucks safely and effectively.
  • Knowledge of pipe installation techniques including pipe laser alignment and trenching procedures for underground utilities.
  • Familiarity with blueprint reading, technical drawings, construction plans, and interpreting specifications for utility projects.
  • Understanding of safety protocols related to heavy equipment operation, trench safety, and federal construction safety regulations.
  • Strong physical stamina with the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions throughout the workday.
  • Assist with the excavation, trenching, and backfilling of underground utility lines using hand tools and power equipment.

Skills

  • Proven experience working as an underground utility laborer or in a similar construction environment.
  • Knowledge of underground utility systems including water, sewer, gas, or electrical lines.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and basic construction machinery safely.
  • Strong physical stamina with the ability to lift heavy materials and work in outdoor conditions for extended periods.
  • Excellent teamwork skills with a proactive attitude toward safety procedures.
  • Basic understanding of blueprints or technical drawings is a plus but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred; familiarity with OSHA safety standards highly desirable.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
