Role Summary
The Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day execution of welding and fabrication operations on the shop floor and in the field. This role supports crew members directly, ensuring safety, quality control, material readiness, and timely job completion. The Foreman is expected to lead by example, working alongside the crew when needed, including performing welding, layout, or setup duties during production-critical periods.
Core ResponsibilitiesCrew Oversight & Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for all welder and fitter questions
- Provide on-the-ground leadership on both shop and field jobs
- Jump in and assist with welding, fitting, layout, or equipment setup when needed
- Ensure all crew members are clear on daily objectives and task assignments
Safety & Quality Control
- Conduct daily safety walkthroughs and enforce LTJ safety standards
- Monitor work for compliance with job specifications and welding codes
- Address defects or errors early and provide hands-on correction or coaching
Job Readiness & Coordination
- Confirm material availability and job documentation prior to shift start
- Coordinate with the purchasing/scheduling team to avoid production delays
- Escalate unresolved material or scheduling gaps to the Operations Manager
Communication & Escalation
- Relay production issues, material delays, or crew challenges to the Operations Manager
- Participate in daily huddles or production meetings and provide updates
- Keep a log of recurring issues, skill gaps, or safety concerns
Documentation & Workflow
- Use JPI (Just Planet) or job boards to track progress, due dates, and active jobs
- Complete basic records for safety checks, quality walkthroughs, or field change
- Follow structured checklists for job readiness and daily closure
Ideal Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in industrial welding/fabrication
- Proven ability to lead crews in a fast-paced industrial environment
- Hands-on welding and layout expertise (structural and code welding preferred)
- Comfortable being in the field, leading from the front
- Strong attention to detail, problem solving, and crew mentorship
- Clear communicator, dependable under pressure, and solution-focused
Position Scope
This is a working foreman position. The foreman will remain physically present on job sites and in the shop, assisting the team as needed. They are not expected to manage estimating, customer quoting, or purchasing.
The Foreman acts as a bridge between leadership and labor, ensuring that production meets schedule, quality, and safety expectations
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $26.53 - $31.95 per hour
