Director of the Student Accessibility Services Responsibilities:Provide vision and leadership in the Student Accessibility Services to support students and faculty in their academic success.Stay current on federal and state laws, regulations, court decisions, and Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights decisions.Attend Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS) regional meetings, conferences, and trainings to stay abreast of new or updated information.Adapt and/or supervise the production or adaption of a wide variety of instructional and related materials into a format that can be accessed by students with visual, audio, or related limitations.Provide technical assistance and consultation to the campus community on access requirements for students with disabilities.Maintain a system of strategies for adapting informational and instructional materials into formats that can be readily accessed by students with disabilities.Manage the technology center in coordination with the office of information technology to maintain a variety of adaptive equipment and computer hardware/software.Respond to and address student complaints relating to the SAS.Assist in the development and maintenance of departmental budget and Management Information Systems (MIS) Data Submission.Assist with the evaluation of Student Accessibility Services staff.Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with local service agencies and K-12 districts.Assist with the selection and coordination of adjunct faculty in the department as needed.Lead in outreach/inreach activities with other departmental staff in promoting SAS resources.Participate in full-time faculty responsibilities including faculty and departmental meetings, departmental planning, community liaison, curriculum development, and committee assignments.Participate in all faculty training days.Ability to develop working relationships with college faculty, staff, and community groups.Learning Disabilities Specialist Responsibilities:Work with students having a wide range of disabling conditions.Administer, score, and interpret standardized tests to determine eligibility for learning disabilities services.Identify educational limitations and appropriate accommodations for students with learning disabilities.Assist in the development of academic accommodations plan (AAP) for students with disabilities, utilizing appropriate information from educational, medical, psychological, and vocational sources.Maintain appropriate student records for purposes of evaluation and accountability, including federal and state reporting.Consult periodically with staff and counselors on students’ progress.Develop curriculum appropriate for students with disabilities.Develop quarterly class schedules for students when appropriate.Teach developmental skills courses.Provide educational workshops for learning disabled students.Assist in the development of projects and proposals concerning students with learning disabilities.Assist students with problems related to academic progress and success.
