What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transient in the Campus Mailroom position at LSU HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER-SHREVEPORT?
This position provides support within the institution's campus mailroom. The Transient Mailroom Worker assists with the receipt, sorting, and distribution of mail and packages for students, faculty, and staff. The role ensures timely, accurate, and secure handling of all mail while delivering excellent customer service to the campus community. This position reports directly to the Administrative Supervisor for Campus Mailroom and indirectly to the Director of Auxiliary Services.
Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.
Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur that customer satisfaction is met at all times.
Essential Position Functions & Duties - 100%
- Receive, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing campus mail and packages.
- Deliver mail and packages to designated campus departments, student mail centers, and other delivery points.
- Assist students, faculty, and staff with inquiries related to mail and package delivery.
- Log and track incoming packages using the university's mail tracking system or other delivery software.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within the mailroom environment.
- Operate mailroom equipment such as postage meters, scanners, carts, and hand trucks safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to university policies and procedures regarding mail handling, confidentiality, and security.
- Support special projects and events related to mail operations as assigned by the Mailroom Supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The applicant must meet the following:
- Associate's degree from an accredited university in business, education, or a related field
- At least two (2) years of professional experience in an educational or healthcare setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in business, education, or a related field
- At least five (5) years of professional post-graduate experience in a professional setting
