Job Summary
The Structural Project Engineer is responsible for the technical aspects of structural scope and specializes in the design and analysis of various structure types. They can lead and oversee all structural aspects of Project Delivery except for Final Contracts and Invoicing. They provide direction for the execution of the overall structural project design, while prioritizing delegation of work to other staff to ensure budgets, deadlines and mentoring goals are met. They provide detailed calculations about the strength and stability of structures and collaborate with various departments to ensure a plan is in motion to safely build the structure.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Production Execution: Oversees/Develops design documents and scope through all project phases, from concept design through construction documents
- Perform all duties of the Senior Structural Designer Role/EIT (depending on BIM experience) and shall do so as required to meet deliverable deadlines and work life balance of others on the team.
- Manages the design delivery process while prioritizing delegation to others; self-perform as necessary
- Guides design staff on the preparation of design and construction drawings, models, details and connections
- Serves as an expert technical resource for design staff
Design Execution: Oversees/Leads design process and implementation of design through all project phases, from programming through construction administration
- Coordinates and Communicates scope of work for the project and associated changes/evolution with the other design professionals as needed for a coordinated document (including delegated designs by others)
- Oversee/Leads development of project documents, models, renderings, diagrams, and other visual tools to help communicate project designs/ideas
- Completes and clearly presents code, material, or context research and analysis for validation by production staff
- A go-to resource for materials, methods, codes, and regulatory requirements
- Evaluate existing conditions and potential failures for design of repairs or RISK management
Administration: Facilitates administration and communication among internal and external teams
- Follows Warehaus organization standards, including file management and drawing asset management
- Ensures design files are maintained by design staff for reference purposes
- Supports Project Manager with development and monitoring of scope, budget, and schedule when needed
- Ensures design intent is maintained in the review of rfi’s, shop drawings, field inspections and reports before finalization
- Oversees/Leads the coordination of the structural design with the entire design team – including clients, consultants, contractors and vendors
- Balance workload of delegated work from and to others to maximize billable hours, ensure budgets, deadlines and mentoring goals are met
- Mentors staff members and participate in performance reviews, as required
