What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach position at Loyola University - New Orleans?
Within the framework of the Loyola University New Orleans mission of educating the whole person, the head men’s and women’s golf coach will fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position. Responsibilities include but are not limited to program and staff oversight, recruiting and developing student athletes, and promoting the program to the institution’s stakeholders. This is a 12 month position.
Additional Responsibilities:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Provide leadership, organization, and supervision for all practices and competitions.
- Implement and maintain standards of performance consistent with the University’s goals of academic and athletic performance.
- Assign assistant coach(es) specific coaching and administrative responsibilities.
- Organize and implement a recruiting program to attract outstanding student-athletes to attend Loyola University.
- Conduct the program within the rules and regulations of the conference and national organizations as well as the University.
- Manage the program within the parameters of an approved budget.
- Coordinate with Assistant Vice President of Athletics about:
- Budget requests
- Scheduling of matches and practices
- Scheduling of officials
- Purchase and maintenance of equipment
- Appointment of assistant coach(es)
- Appointment of student assistants
- Contest administration
- Facilities scheduling, repair, and maintenance
- Athletic eligibility and standards
- recruiting and retention goals with the potential of awarding student athletic scholarships
- Drive van for competitions and/or practices, as needed.
- Coordinate fundraising projects for program with Associate Athletic Director.
- Represent the University at various public functions including university meeting and speaking engagements.
- Assist in game management for on and off campus athletic events; work with Associate Director on operations of concessions for home games and events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Athletics.
- Evening and weekend work is required
- Serve on Divisional or University committees as appointed.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assume the duties of the university Campus Security Authority (CSA), including but not limited to, reporting crimes as defined through the Cleary Act and providing annual reporting statistics.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree, Master’s preferred.
- Minimum of three years successful coaching experience.
- Expertise in technical aspects of golf.
- Ability to work effectively with college student-athletes, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community.
- Must possess and maintain a current valid driver’s license as a condition of employment, and must also be able to successfully pass any driver background information investigation and any driver education courses required by Risk Management.
- A philosophy of intercollegiate athletics which places the highest emphasis on the pre-eminence of the academic mission of the institution and role of athletics as a part of the student’s total educational experience for both the student-athlete and the student non-athlete.
- A well developed personal system of ethical values that will be used as the basis for supervising and developing the intercollegiate program.
- Current CPR and AED certifications.
- Beliefs basically supportive of and compatible with the principles of Catholic, Jesuit higher education and the specified goals of the University.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to drive/transport athletes.
- Must be able to set up and take down golf equipment. Also able to lift, move, and carry up to 25lbs.
