Duties and Responsibilities
  • Job Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director of the Faculty Development Center, the Director of Teaching and Learning develops, organizes, and coordinates the delivery of a multi-modal, developmentally sequenced array of evidence-based education and training programs to enhance our faculty effectiveness in teaching and resultant student learning. The Director supervises one full-time employee (FTE) and student workers. Responsibilities include helping to develop and execute the Center’s strategic plan as it pertains to teaching and learning. The Director fosters collaboration related to teaching and learning development within the Center, and partners with faculty and LUC campus partners as needed to meet current faculty needs.


  • General Responsibilities: Strategic Oversight: Implement the Center’s strategic plan, rooted in the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm and informed by the faculty needs assessment survey, to provide holistic support for faculty professional development in teaching and learning. Leadership: Lead the teaching and learning support for the Center for Faculty Development, including hiring, training, and developing professional staff and student workers. Foster a mission-centered culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Innovation: Stay current with evidence-based trends to support faculty professional development in the area of teaching and learning, evaluating their potential merit and recommending implementation, when appropriate to the Executive Director. Budgeting: Ensure cost-effective use of resources. Fundraising: Support the Executive Director’s efforts to pursue potential grant funding for Center activities. Relationship Management: Maintain relationships with faculty and campus partners to provide services.

  • Position Specific Responsibilities: Provide high-quality professional development for faculty in the area of teaching and learning. Foster a “one-stop-shop” for faculty professional development related to teaching and learning by partnering with faculty and units across the institution. Conduct intakes with faculty seeking assistance and refer accordingly. Develop, organize, and coordinate the delivery of a multi-modal, developmentally sequenced array of evidence-based education and training programs to enhance our faculty effectiveness in teaching and resultant student learning. Deliver faculty professional development opportunities as necessary. Oversee daily activities, including providing programs and individualized support to faculty seeking assistance. Ensure the continuous improvement of support services to align with the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm, aligning decisions with faculty needs identified in the needs assessment survey. Assess outcomes of efforts and adjust accordingly. Assist with the recruitment, training, and professional development of staff and student workers. Execute initiatives to streamline workflows and proactively manage changes in support services, ensuring alignment with the Center’s strategic plan.· Support the process for soliciting, vetting and selecting faculty for the faculty excellence awards. Perform other duties, as requested.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
  • A Doctoral degree with an emphasis in higher education, instructional design, human relations, or related field is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience with teaching at the university level.
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership experience in with pedagogical development, a history of building and maintaining internal partnerships, and supervisory and administrative skills in higher education.
