At a glance! The Director of Information Technology Services (ITS) is the Chief Information Officer for the College and provides leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for all information technology services and information systems that support the College’s mission, operations, and strategic goals. The Director oversees the helpdesk support, audiovisual technology, application development, database management, systems administration, and network engineering. This position also leads LCC’s strategic IT initiatives including maintaining existing systems and implementing new and innovative solutions, and ensuring appropriate security controls are in place to safeguard LCC’s data and IT systems.

The Director is someone who enjoys collaborating and building quality relationships with diverse individuals. The Director leads the implementation of institution-wide IT projects and uses strong critical thinking skills to solve complex problems.

The Director is at the forefront of connecting technology with our College’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. The Director is instrumental in ensuring equitable access to resources, opportunities, and services for all members of our diverse community. Working collaboratively with our campus community, the Director will design and implement IT strategies that prioritize diversity and accessibility.

This position is 40 hours per week and exempt under FLSA. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. The Director works primarily on campus with occasional flexibility to work remotely. This position reports to the Vice President of Administration. We typically hire closer to the lower to middle range of the posted salary. Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the College’s information technology systems, infrastructure, and digital services; develop and maintain a comprehensive IT strategic plan aligned with institutional priorities
  • Direct the planning, development, and oversight of the IT budget, including hardware and software procurement, licensing, contracts, and resource allocation
  • Oversee the operation, reliability, and performance of enterprise information systems, infrastructure, network services, and cloud-based technologies
  • Lead institutional cybersecurity efforts, including risk assessment, policy implementation, security awareness, and incident response coordination
  • Ensure continuity of IT services through effective disaster recovery and business continuity planning, including regular review and updates of continuity and incident response plans
  • Promote and enforce sound data governance practices, ensuring the integrity, security, and appropriate use of institutional data, including management of data-sharing agreements
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional technology policies, standards, and regulatory requirements; lead development and maintenance of IT policies and procedures
  • Lead the delivery of IT services and support strategies that enable faculty, staff, and students to effectively and securely use technology resources
  • Foster collaboration with campus stakeholders, vendors, and external partners to support effective technology adoption, innovation, and service delivery
  • Serve as the College’s Technology Accessibility Coordinator, chair the Accessible Technology Workgroup, and support institutional efforts to ensure accessible technology environments
  • Represent the College in statewide and external technology initiatives, including participation in system-level committees and commissions
  • Supervise IT staff, including setting performance expectations, supporting professional development, and conducting evaluations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field (equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for degree requirement)
  • Two years of progressive experience in IT management including experience in leadership or supervisory roles
  • Strong leadership skills including ability to lead those they don't have direct authority over
  • Excellent project management skills including ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and deliver results within established budgets
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively to diverse individuals
  • Experience in strategic planning, budget management, and resource allocation for IT initiatives
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in a complex and rapidly changing technological landscape
  • Experience implementing and maintaining robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive data and information systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field
  • Five years experience in IT management
  • Experience supporting technology in higher education or public sector environments.
  • Experience administering and supporting enterprise collaboration platforms such as Google Cloud Platform
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements for educational institutions including data privacy laws (such as FERPA) and cybersecurity best practices

Conditions of Employment

Anticipated Start Date

LCC offers two start dates for new employees - the 1st and 16th or the closest working day.

Retirement

Employees participate in either the State Board Retirement Plan administered through TIAA-CREF or PERS Plan 3 administered through the Department of Retirement Systems. Both plans are matched by LCC. There are also two supplemental tax-deferred retirement plans you can elect to participate in: the State Board Voluntary Investment Program and the Washington State Deferred Compensation Program.

Vacation

Paid leave and paid holidays are prorated based on FTE. The vacation accrual amounts listed below reflect a 12 month, 40 hour per week employee.

  • 0 - 5th years of employment - 16 hours per month / 24 days per year
  • Starting 6th year of employment and Exempt Administrators - 18.667 hours per month / 28 days per year

Personal Holidays

  • Five (5) Personal Holidays per year

Sick Leave

  • One day (8 hours) per month

LCC also offers exempt employees paid and unpaid leaves including bereavement, civil duty, disability, emergency, maternity/paternity, medical, military, professional and share leave.

Paid Holidays

Employees get 11 paid holidays per calendar year.

Social Security

All state employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems. The state and the employee pay an equal amount into the system.

Tuition Waiver

For interested exempt employees, LCC offers $10 classes. State employees also qualify for tuition discounts with other various colleges and universities across the state (RCW 28B.15.558).

Red Devil Wellbeing

Red Devil Wellbeing is LCC's employee wellness program that strives to help employees improve and maintain their wellbeing enabling them to live healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness

If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, and meet the qualifying criteria, you may be eligible to receive student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

On-site Childcare Center

The Early Learning Center is a state licensed program that offers high quality childcare for children ages 1 month through kindergarten entry to students, staff and faculty. The center is open Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program is a participant of the Washington State Early Achievers quality rating and improvement system and rated a level 4-Quality Level of Excellence. Our teachers are trained in the Early Childhood Education field.
