Position Summary:

This is a 0.5 FTE residency education / 0.5 FTE clinical role. The Behavioral Health Residency Faculty plays a vital role in the education, training, and professional development of Family Medicine residents. The position oversees the design and delivery of the behavioral health curriculum, mentors residents in communication and patient care skills, and provides direct clinical services as part of the Family Medicine Residency’s interdisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

Curricular Coordination

  • Collaborate with the Residency Program Director and faculty to design, implement, and continuously improve a Family Medicine–specific, evidence-based behavioral health curriculum.

  • Develop measurable goals, objectives, and evaluation tools.

  • Teach and coordinate didactic sessions.

  • Participate in faculty and leadership meetings to assess educational needs.

  • Incorporate feedback from residents, faculty, milestones, and exams to update curriculum in alignment with best practices.

Teaching, Supervision, and Mentorship

  • Provide clinical supervision, feedback, and milestone assessments for residents.

  • Model behavioral health care through direct observation and video review.

  • Offer constructive feedback to promote resident growth.

  • Support residents with individualized learning plans when necessary.

  • Foster a supportive and positive learning environment.

Resident Support

  • Remain accessible and approachable for resident wellness support.

  • Lead or co-facilitate resident support groups.

  • Participate in new resident orientation.

  • Assist in dispute resolution within the residency community.

  • Support planning and execution of resident retreats.

Administration

  • Participate in resident and faculty recruitment, including application review and interviews.

  • Engage in program meetings and other administrative duties.

  • Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.

Clinical Work

  • Provide direct behavioral health services to Family Medicine Residency patients.

  • Collaborate with the Lowell CHC Behavioral Health team.

  • Participate in the Behavioral Health clinical call schedule.

Scholarly Work

  • Promote scholarly inquiry within the residency program.

  • Mentor residents in research and quality improvement projects.

  • Engage in collaborative scholarship with faculty and residents.

Community Engagement

  • Partner with local healthcare facilities and community organizations to promote health equity and expand resident learning opportunities.

Qualifications

  • PhD or PsyD in Psychology.

  • Eligible for full licensure by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Psychologists; current valid license required.

  • Minimum 2 years post-graduate clinical experience (preferred).

  • Experience in medical education (teaching health center or academic setting preferred).

  • Demonstrated success in teaching, mentoring, and working with learners.

  • Strong commitment to evidence-based medicine and continuous quality improvement.

  • Engagement in scholarly activity (publications, presentations, or research) desirable.

  • CPR/BLS certification required.

  • Ability to stand and walk up to 80% of the workday.

  • Lift, push, or pull up to 30 pounds as needed.

  • Ability to perform CPR (including chest compressions).

  • Frequent interaction with patients, families, staff, and visitors.

  • Occasional reassignment to other areas to meet patient needs.

  • Exposure to stressful situations due to competing demands.

  • Possible exposure to infectious diseases and body fluids; protective equipment and training provided.

Salary : $130,000
