Title: Optometric Technician (Technician) Division: Clinical Reports to: Lead Optometric Technician Pay Type: HourlyThe role of the Optometric Technician is to provide technical support to patients, Optometrist(s) and Optician(s). This includes patient work-up, pretesting, tonometry, and performing the appropriate professional services to patients. As the functional liaison between patient and Optometrist, the Technician is the primary person in charge of informing the OD of any and all imperative information before the patient is examined. Because our mission is to improve people's lives through better vision and eye health, a deep working knowledge of all pretesting equipment is required. The ability to effectively communicate to patients and the optometrist(s) is of utmost importance.Optometric Technician Job Responsibilities:Demonstrates expert ability in communicating with patients the purpose of each test and its importance to their eye healthOperation and maintenance of all pretesting equipment including but not limited to:LensometerAuto-refractor / keratometerNon-contact tonometerAuto-field perimeterKeystone visual skillsVisual acuity testPupilometerRetinal imaging device (Optomap)Visual FieldOptical Coherence Tomography (OCT)Stock and maintain all exam rooms with all necessary suppliesPerform I&R and contact lens instruction, answering patient questions regarding contact lenses.Tracks and orders supply inventory (alcohol pads, eye drops, FI strips, etc.) as appropriate.Competencies:Demonstrates Our Core ValuesAs the liaison between the patient and the Optometrist, the Optometric Technician must consistently display behaviors that align with the core values of the practice.Hard work - Going the extra mile for our patients and team.Enthusiasm - Working with energy and a purpose.Self Drive - Making independent decisions and being a problem solver.Compassion - Letting patients and fellow team members know we care. Attention to detail relative to all testing and results is imperative.Pace of the EnvironmentMust be able to work at a fast pace. Effectively handling multiple tasks and patients at one time, while focusing on the individual patient experience.Consistency of WorkRequires consistent repetition of several technical tasks. A displayed comfort level and accuracy of accomplishing tasks and testing of this nature is required.Team PlayerAs the patient liaison to the Optometrist, the Optometric Technician must exhibit the ability to work well within the team environment, supporting all aspects of the practice and delivering on the patient experience.
