What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Fence & Railing Installation Technician position at Lovewell Fencing, Inc.?
Job Summary
Start at $24–$28/Hour | No Fence Experience Required | Paid Training | Career Track to Foreman
Looking for a job—or looking to start a career?
Lovewell Fencing is hiring Commercial Fence & Railing Installation Technicians for our Davenport, Iowa team.
You don't need years of fence experience to get started.
We're looking for dependable, mechanically minded people who like working with their hands, want to learn a skilled trade, and are interested in building a career where your pay and responsibilities can grow with your abilities.
We'll teach you the trade.
You bring the work ethic and willingness to learn.
Learn a Skilled Commercial Trade
This isn't a job standing in one place doing the same task all day.
Our crews install commercial fence, architectural railing, gates, and specialty systems on large multi-family and commercial construction projects.
You'll start by working alongside experienced installers and Foremen while learning how professional commercial installations are completed.
As you develop, you'll learn skills like:
- Reading construction plans and drawings
- Commercial fence and railing installation
- Measuring, layout, elevations, and jobsite calculations
- Concrete drilling and anchoring systems
- Using professional power tools and specialized equipment
- Installing architectural and ornamental railing systems
- Gate and access-control related installation
- Working with general contractors and other construction trades
- Troubleshooting problems in the field
- Planning work and organizing a jobsite
- Eventually, leading projects and crews
The goal isn't to keep you at the bottom. It's to teach you enough to move up.
How Fast Can You Grow?
That depends largely on you.
Someone who shows up every day, learns quickly, takes pride in their work, and starts taking responsibility can advance rapidly.
A typical career path can look like:
Installation Technician → Skilled Installer → Lead Installer → Foreman
For our most qualified, motivated, and capable employees, Foreman opportunities may be possible within 12–18 months.
A Foreman isn't just the guy who's been here the longest.
Foremen understand the project, read the plans, coordinate the work, solve problems, communicate with the customer and general contractor, and lead their crew.
We'll give you opportunities to learn those skills if you demonstrate you're ready for them.
Starting Pay: $24–$28/Hour
No fence experience is required.
Starting wage is $24.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on your existing skills, abilities, and related experience.
This is an hourly position, and overtime should be expected during the construction season.
More importantly, your starting wage doesn't have to be where you stay.
As you learn more, become more productive, master specialized installations, and take on greater responsibility, there is opportunity to grow both your position and your earning potential.
We want employees who become more valuable every year they're here.
You Don't Need to Have Your Career Figured Out Yet
Maybe you know you don't want to sit behind a desk all day.
Maybe you've worked construction, farming, landscaping, manufacturing, automotive, warehouse, or other hands-on jobs.
Maybe you're just starting out and know you're willing to work—you just need someone willing to teach you something valuable.
That's what this position is designed to do.
We're not expecting you to walk through the door knowing our trade.
We're looking for someone who can eventually become an expert at it.
What We Expect From You
Experience can be taught. Work habits are harder to teach.
We're looking for someone who:
- Shows up on time and ready to work
- Is dependable Monday through Friday
- Takes pride in doing things correctly
- Can listen, learn, and follow instructions
- Is comfortable working with tools or wants to learn
- Is mechanically minded and likes figuring things out
- Can work as part of a crew
- Doesn't need someone standing over them all day
- Wants more responsibility as they gain experience
- Is willing to work outdoors year-round
- Can safely lift up to 100 lbs. and lift 30 lbs. overhead
- Wants an opportunity to build a career instead of bouncing from job to job
You don't need to know everything on Day One.
You do need to be willing to learn.
Travel Is Part of the Job
Our commercial crews work where the projects are located.
Monday-through-Friday travel, including overnight stays, is required. The amount of travel varies depending on our current projects.
You'll have the opportunity to work on different commercial and multi-family projects and gain experience you simply won't get working at the same location every day.
If you're looking for a Monday-through-Friday construction career, enjoy seeing different jobsites, and don't mind being on the road when projects require it, this could be a great fit.
