Duties
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using manual handling techniques such as Hoyer lifts and patient transfer methods.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and observe for any changes in health status, documenting findings accurately while adhering to HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with feeding when necessary, promoting healthy eating habits.
- Support medication administration under supervision or according to care plans, ensuring timely and safe delivery of prescribed treatments.
- Provide companionship and emotional support, engaging clients in meaningful activities that enhance their mental well-being.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties, laundry, and ensuring infection control protocols are followed diligently.
- Assist with transportation to medical appointments or community outings, ensuring client safety during travel.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly desirable.
- Strong patient observation skills with the ability to recognize changes in health status or behavior.
- Knowledge of dementia care, Alzheimer’s care, memory care, autism support, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities support, neurodevelopmental disorders, and hospice care is preferred.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is required; additional certifications such as medication administration or HIPAA training are a plus.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and use patient transfer equipment like Hoyer lifts effectively.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with clients and collaborating with healthcare teams.
- Compassionate attitude combined with a proactive approach to caregiving that prioritizes client dignity and independence.
