SALARY:   Base pay $22.00/hr Head Custodian Stipend - $2,800/yr   

Commensurate with salary schedules

GENERAL DESRIPTION

Supervise the custodial work force and maintain school property in a clean and safe environment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  2. Must have two years of experience in custodial work.
  3. Must have knowledge of primary and secondary school maintenance procedures.
  4. Current Driver's License.

  6. Comply with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines that prohibit coercive, harassing, threatening, retaliating, bullying or discriminating conduct.
  7. Communicate in a truthful, timely, compassionate, and empathetic manner about any matter of interest to the District following the appropriate chain of authority.
  8. Manage District property and assets in an ethical and responsible manner in accordance with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of information as required under federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
  10. Report actions, through the appropriate chain of authority, that may represent violations of federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
  11. Refrain from unethical activity that may reasonably interfere with the legitimate operational interests and goals of the District.
  12. Comply with all other federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Ensure safety of students; Promote good safety practices and procedures.
  2. Make contact with the public with tact and diplomacy.
  3. Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.
  4. Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
  5. Dispose of debris and maintain equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner.
  6. Report to Buildings and Ground's Supervisor any damaged, broken, loose fixtures and/or equipment.
  7. Secure building; check building to assure maximum security.
  8. Attend meetings and in-service as required.
  9. Maintain a daily work routine as established by the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor to adequately service the buildings, grounds, and person.
  10. Promote good public relations.
  11. Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.

     12.    Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration.  

  1. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, intervention specialists or members of the school community.  
  3. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.  
  4. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.  
  5. Ability to work in a team environment.
  6. Schedule, oversee the team leader and assist with the cleaning and repair at schools including the lunchroom, gymnasium and general grounds.
  7. Requisition all supplies needed for custodial and secondary maintenance work.
  8. Receive all equipment and supplies shipped to the building.
  9. Distribute a variety of items (i.e., supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc) for the purpose of distributing materials to the appropriate parties within site.
  10. Maintain inventory and warehouse control program of expendable supplies and maintenance tools and equipment.
  11. Distribute custodial supplies and equipment for the purpose of disseminating materials to custodial staff and/or storage locations.
  12. Ascertain with the principal the daily, weekly and long-range instructional and extracurricular events in order to have building ready.
  13. Complete all administrative records as required.
  14. Report major maintenance repairs to maintenance department or Buildings & Grounds Supervisor by completing work requests.
  15. Schedule, oversee and assist with summer cleaning program.
  16. Ensure proper custodial personnel are available for special after-hour activities.
  17. Plan, schedule and oversee preventive custodial and maintenance programs and or buildings and grounds.
  18. Collaborate with building principal and business manager on capabilities of any worker, their performance evaluation and any problem that has a bearing on their ability to do an efficient and effective job.
  19. Perform routine cleaning tasks and work as required.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned by the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor.

  9. Scrubbers and buffers
  10. Power washer
  11. Stripping machine

 
Additional Working Conditions:

  1. Frequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and soiled tissue
  2. Occasional requirement to work near moving mechanical parts
  3. Occasional requirement to work in high places
  4. Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles
  5. Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
  6. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, e.g., requirement to work outdoors during all types of weather
  7. Occasional exposure to dangerous chemicals
  8. Occasional exposure to loud noises
  9. Occasional overtime work will be requested and expected of the employee
  10. Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g., waxing, mopping, sweeping
  11. Frequent requirement to sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, hear, and see with color vision
  12. Frequent requirement to lift and carry various items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  13. Occasional operation of vehicle under inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to work on all scheduled workdays, except calamity days
  14. Occasional climbing of ladders and stairs
  15. Frequent requirement to stand, walk, talk, read, speak, reach, and stretch with hands and arms
  16. Occasional requirement to walk in excess of 2-3 miles per day, e.g., cleaning, making deliveries
  17. Frequent excessive exposure to noise, e.g., power tools, vacuum

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 
Directly oversee custodial staff, being a team leader to custodial employees.  Carry out team leader responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and negotiated agreements. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work.
 

REPORTS TO: Principal/Buildings & Grounds Supervisor/Business Manager 
STATUS:Classified
SALARY:Based on training and experience in accordance with the district salary schedule.
