SALARY: Base pay $22.00/hr Head Custodian Stipend - $2,800/yr

Commensurate with salary schedules

Head Custodian
GENERAL DESRIPTION

Supervise the custodial work force and maintain school property in a clean and safe environment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Must have two years of experience in custodial work.
  • Must have knowledge of primary and secondary school maintenance procedures.
  • Current Driver's License.

  • Comply with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines that prohibit coercive, harassing, threatening, retaliating, bullying or discriminating conduct.
  • Communicate in a truthful, timely, compassionate, and empathetic manner about any matter of interest to the District following the appropriate chain of authority.
  • Manage District property and assets in an ethical and responsible manner in accordance with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information as required under federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
  • Report actions, through the appropriate chain of authority, that may represent violations of federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
  • Refrain from unethical activity that may reasonably interfere with the legitimate operational interests and goals of the District.
  • Comply with all other federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure safety of students; Promote good safety practices and procedures.
  • Make contact with the public with tact and diplomacy.
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
  • Dispose of debris and maintain equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Report to Buildings and Ground's Supervisor any damaged, broken, loose fixtures and/or equipment.
  • Secure building; check building to assure maximum security.
  • Attend meetings and in-service as required.
  • Maintain a daily work routine as established by the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor to adequately service the buildings, grounds, and person.
  • Promote good public relations.
  • Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.

12. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, intervention specialists or members of the school community.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Schedule, oversee the team leader and assist with the cleaning and repair at schools including the lunchroom, gymnasium and general grounds.
  • Requisition all supplies needed for custodial and secondary maintenance work.
  • Receive all equipment and supplies shipped to the building.
  • Distribute a variety of items (i.e., supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc) for the purpose of distributing materials to the appropriate parties within site.
  • Maintain inventory and warehouse control program of expendable supplies and maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Distribute custodial supplies and equipment for the purpose of disseminating materials to custodial staff and/or storage locations.
  • Ascertain with the principal the daily, weekly and long-range instructional and extracurricular events in order to have building ready.
  • Complete all administrative records as required.
  • Report major maintenance repairs to maintenance department or Buildings & Grounds Supervisor by completing work requests.
  • Schedule, oversee and assist with summer cleaning program.
  • Ensure proper custodial personnel are available for special after-hour activities.
  • Plan, schedule and oversee preventive custodial and maintenance programs and or buildings and grounds.
  • Collaborate with building principal and business manager on capabilities of any worker, their performance evaluation and any problem that has a bearing on their ability to do an efficient and effective job.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks and work as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor.

  • Frequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and soiled tissue
  • Occasional requirement to work near moving mechanical parts
  • Occasional requirement to work in high places
  • Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles
  • Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, e.g., requirement to work outdoors during all types of weather
  • Occasional exposure to dangerous chemicals
  • Occasional exposure to loud noises
  • Occasional overtime work will be requested and expected of the employee
  • Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g., waxing, mopping, sweeping
  • Frequent requirement to sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, hear, and see with color vision
  • Frequent requirement to lift and carry various items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Occasional operation of vehicle under inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to work on all scheduled workdays, except calamity days
  • Occasional climbing of ladders and stairs
  • Frequent requirement to stand, walk, talk, read, speak, reach, and stretch with hands and arms
  • Occasional requirement to walk in excess of 2-3 miles per day, e.g., cleaning, making deliveries
  • Frequent excessive exposure to noise, e.g., power tools, vacuum


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES



Directly oversee custodial staff, being a team leader to custodial employees. Carry out team leader responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and negotiated agreements. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work.
