What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tow Truck Operator (Provisional) position at Louisville Metro Government?
RESIDENCE: Residence is a requirement for all positions. In the absence of clear and convincing evidence to the contrary, an applicant shall be deemed a non-resident if he/she cannot show ninety (90) days of continuous and uninterrupted residence in the City of Buffalo prior to filing application. Distinguishing Features of the Class
An incumbent to this position operates a tow truck and provides road service maintenance to disabled city-owned vehicles. Work consists of routine manual and simple mechanical operations of equipment. Direct supervision is received from a superior who may perform periodic inspection of work. No supervision is exercised.
Examples of work (Illustration Only)
Tows all vehicles referred to the Division of Parking Enforcement with a combination weight of up to 18,000 lbs.;
Operates a tow truck vehicle and car carrier (flatbed) to clear accident scenes;
Provides road service maintenance to disabled city-owned vehicles such as changing tires, replacing batteries and other minor mechanic service;
Tows disabled city-owned vehicles to garage when necessary work cannot be accomplished at the scene;
May be required to tow civilian vehicles when necessary;
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Class B Commercial Drivers License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles at time of filing application and maintain during employment
Possession of a Class A Commercial Drivers License may be required during employment based on equipment in service.

Good knowledge of the operation of a tow truck
Good knowledge of the geography and traffic laws of the City of Buffalo;
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions;
Mechanical aptitude; Dependably;
Physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.
