The Economist 1/2/3 is responsible for analyzing labor market data including, but not limited to employment, unemployment, civilian labor force participation, labor migration patterns, and business cycles.

The Office of Workforce Development (OWD) is a key division of Louisiana Works managing programs in workforce training, job placement, apprenticeships, and business engagement. Through collaboration with local boards, educational institutions, and industry partners, OWD aims to improve economic mobility for job seekers and ensure Louisiana employers have the skilled talent they need, contributing to the state’s economic growth.

Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree in economics.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Reviews and analyzes micro and macro level economic and labor force data from various sources including but not limited to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), Census Bureau, Labor Market Information (LMI) and Unemployment Insurance programs.
  • Produce graphs, tables and reports that satisfy the need for public reporting.
  • Work with partners on specific studies and requests to develop robust research and analysis reports.
  • Clean and analyze input data used in developing the Industry and Occupational Employment Projections.
  • Upload data, process and develop projections for federal deliverables and forecasts for the state using Projections Suite software.
  • Provides expert consultation on the informative capacity of labor market information data in evaluating public policy decisions.
  • Other duties as assigned
