What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research - Student Worker position at Louisiana State University?
The Department of Physical Therapy, the most research-productive unit within the School of Allied Health Professions, seeks a Federal Work-Study student worker to support its growing research enterprise. The student worker will assist with research coordination, data entry, and literature review, directly enhancing faculty efficiency and productivity. This position will provide vital support to Dr. Liu, Department Chair and active researcher, whose responsibilities include directing and developing courses, managing multiple grants, mentoring junior faculty, and providing statistical expertise. By handling foundational research tasks, the student worker will enable faculty to focus on higher-level research design, grant development, and dissemination. Unlike administrative coordinators, this role is specifically aligned with research needs. With 75% of wages covered by federal funds, the position offers an economical, sustainable solution to strengthening departmental research capacity and advancing the School’s national reputation for excellence.
- Current enrollment as a student - undergrad or graduate
- Basic knowledge of research methods, data entry, and literature searching.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn research software as needed.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality of research data.
Students may work up to twenty-five (25) hours per week during any week in which classes are in session or exams are scheduled at any time within the week. When classes or exams are not scheduled for a full week, students may work up to forty (40) hours within that week if written supervisor permission is submitted to the timekeeper in advance of the work.
