Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations to inform individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and injections accurately following prescribed protocols, including IV infusions and injections with aseptic technique.
- Manage complex medical procedures such as catheterization, suturing, tube feeding, ventilator management, and wound care including ostomy care and dressing changes.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for precise documentation of patient care activities, medication administration, and medical records management.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory specimen collection/processing, diagnostic imaging coordination (e.g., sonography), and interpret results to guide treatment decisions.
- Provide specialized care in areas such as ICU or trauma medicine within Level I or Level II trauma centers; deliver acute pain management and infectious disease care when needed.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams in settings like outpatient clinics, inpatient units, hospice & palliative medicine, or home & community care environments to ensure seamless patient transitions and discharge planning.
- Engage in health coaching, triage assessments, case management, and working with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health patients, or those with developmental disabilities.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license in good standing with current state requirements.
- Proven experience in critical care environments such as ICU or emergency room settings; hospital experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and medical documentation standards including HIPAA compliance.
- Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner is highly desirable; familiarity with laboratory procedures and specimen processing is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to perform complex procedures such as IV insertion, phlebotomy, ventilator management, aseptic technique for sterile processing or ostomy care.
- Excellent assessment skills with the ability to evaluate patient conditions rapidly and accurately; experience triaging patients in urgent or emergency settings is preferred.
- Compassionate communication skills to work effectively with patients of all ages—including children and infants—and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
- Additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are advantageous.
