The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance. This position is located in DISTRICT 08 /UNIT 530 of the Department of Transportation and Development. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Job Duties

- Operates heavy equipment, as needed.
- Installs and maintains temporary traffic control devices and serves as a flag person during traffic control operations.
- Uses a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, jackhammer, chain saw, string trimmer, and pole saw.
- Performs manual task such as pothole patching, manual cutting of brush and grass, ditch digging, cleaning buildings, assisting in mud jack operations, cutting trees, collecting litter, etc.
- Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator's manual and manufacture's recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
- Maintain a Class A CDL license (MEO 2 and MEO 1/Heavy)
- Requires random drug testing.
- Required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, and climb on and off equipment and trailer, as well as lifting up to fifty pounds on a daily basis.
- Required to work in all types of inclement weather and conditions.
