The Los Angeles Tennis Club is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to support the Club’s day-to-day accounting operations and contribute to ongoing improvements and financial accuracy.

Staff Accountant Position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations of the Club, with a primary focus on general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the Club’s financial records.

The position requires a detail-oriented individual who can analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and follow through to resolution. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Director of Finance/Controller and Accounts Payable Manager to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.

This role is hands-on and requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain organized supporting documentation, and contribute to improving processes and strengthening internal controls. The ideal candidate is proactive, accountable, and comfortable working in an environment where processes are being refined and enhanced. 

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $67,000 - $89,000 annually, depending on experience.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

·      General ledger accounts are reconciled accurately and on a timely basis, with clear and well-organized supporting documentation.

·      Discrepancies are identified, researched, and resolved proactively without reliance on “plug” entries.

·      Month-end close tasks are completed efficiently and deadlines are consistently met.

·      Financial data is reliable, properly coded, and supported in accordance with Club policies and GAAP.

·      Processes are followed consistently, and opportunities for improvement are identified and communicated.

·      The individual demonstrates ownership of their work, accountability for results, and ability to work independently while collaborating with the team.

Qualifications & Requirements

·      Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

·      Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.

·      Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.

·      Proven ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues independently.

·      Experience performing bank and balance sheet reconciliations with clear supporting documentation (not just tying out balances).

·      Familiarity with payroll accounting and third-party payroll systems (e.g., ADP) preferred.

·      Solid understanding of GAAP and internal control concepts.

·      High level of accuracy, attention to detail and organization.

·      Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

·      Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to ask questions and challenge inconsistencies.  

·      Proficient in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, look-ups, data analysis) and accounting systems.

·      Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience

·      Experience in private club, hospitality, or service-based environment.

·      Familiarity with member billing, accounts receivable, and cash receipt processes.

·      Experience with process improvements, system implementations, or transitioning from manual to automated processes.
