TYPE OF RECRUITMENT
Departmental Promotional Opportunity: Restricted to permanent employees of Los Angeles County Public Works who have successfully completed their initial probationary period.
Current employees in unclassified service in Los Angeles County Public Works who meet the following criteria also qualify to participate in this exam: Unclassified employees who have attained permanent County status on a classified position by successful completion of the initial probationary period, with no break in service since leaving the classified service. -OR- Full-time employees in the unclassified service with at least six months of full-time experience in the unclassified service by the last day of filing.
OUT-OF-CLASS EXPERIENCE WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THIS EXAMINATION. REQUIREMENTS MUST BE FULLY MET AT THE TIME OF FILING AND CLEARLY INDICATED ON THE APPLICATION.

Essential Job Functions
An Assistant Fleet Manager, Public Works (Fleet Operations Specialty) is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job functions:
• Manages the fleet maintenance operations of the Fleet Management Division
• Monitors and maintains the inspection and maintenance program of fleet vehicles and equipment
• Conducts inspections of shop facilities
• Manages rentals of fleet vehicles
• Develops and revises policies, procedures, productivity, and quality control standards
• Utilizes automated fleet management and fuel system software
• Consults and collaborates with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
• Supervises subordinate staff
• Establishes and monitors internal controls
Requirements
SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS
One year's experience at the level of the County of Los Angeles class of Road Shop Superintendent*.
-OR-
Four years' recent experience** at the journey level*** in the repair of automotive and construction equipment, one year of which must have included responsibility for assisting in the management of the operations of a large private or public fleet****.
PHYSICAL CLASS
Physical Class II-Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
LICENSE
A valid California Class "C" Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
*Experience at the level of the County of Los Angeles class of Shop Superintendent, Public Works is defined as: Oversees a fleet management shop in charge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repair and maintenance work on automotive, light, medium, and heavy trucks, construction and industrial equipment, and non-automotive power equipment. Classification of Road Shop Superintendent is equivalent to Shop Superintendent, Public Works.
**Recent experience is defined as: within the last 7 years.
***Experience at the journey level can be defined as: Journey-level experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker, not a trainee, and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision.
****Large private or public fleet is defined as: One thousand (1,000) or more vehicles.
OUT-OF-CLASS EXPERIENCE
Experience gained in a position performing similar kinds of work which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for these higher-level positions will be accepted. Experience claimed will be verified and evaluated to determine if the type, level, or length of experience is qualifying. County employees who wish to meet the requirements using out-of-class experience must provide verification by submitting written proof of this experience in a Verification of Experience Letter (VOEL) signed and approved by their Departmental Human Resources Manager or authorized representative. This must be provided within five (5) business days from the time of filing. Employees do not need to submit such verification if they hold or have held one of the positions above, or a position deemed to be at equivalent level. Credit will only be given for out-of-class experience to meet the requirements.

Only candidates who achieve a combined passing score of 70% or higher on Parts I and II will be placed on the eligible list.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
