Provides day-to-day safety management oversight of Metro construction contractors to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, contractor-provided safety submittals, and all applicable regulations. Position is responsible for providing safety oversight regarding the owners contractual, and regulatory safety compliance with contractors and staff on large transportation infrastructure projects. Must interact professionally and effectively with owner, contractor, third-party, consultant, and regulatory representatives.

Examples of Duties
- Plans, organizes, and performs activities associated with the development and achievement of construction projects goals and objectives
- Conducts daily inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations, contract requirements, and plans
- Prepares daily activity reports to document findings of observations made at various construction sites
- Reviews and approves safety related submittals required in contract documents
- Assists contractors in conducting incident/accident investigations
- Develops and enforces policies, procedures, programs, standards, and design criteria affecting fire/life safety, and construction safety of multiple construction projects
- Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency's safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all subordinate employees
- Represents Metro before regulatory bodies and other third parties
- Prepares and presents written and oral reports to management, the Board of Directors, outside agencies, and the public
- Serves as a technical resource to project staff in resolving safety issues, areas of concern, and responses to RFIs (Requests for Information)
- Represents the department on interdepartmental task forces, committees, and outside agencies such as, Cal/OSHA (California Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and Fed/OSHA (Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration)
- Complies with Metro's efficient and effective bill paying standard to ensure project and cost center invoices are paid in a timely manner
- Provides input for developing budget
- Manages assigned staff activities and projects
- Directs the work of other staff, consultants and contractors
- Conducts applicable training for project and Metro staff

Required

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- Six years of relevant experience or three years of relevant supervisory-level experience in construction safety management; experience in tunnel safety (Cal/OSHA Tunnel Orders) with transit construction projects preferred
- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
- Cal/OSHA Gas Tester Certification and/or Safety Representative Certification preferred
- Professional designation as a Construction Safety & Health Technician (CHST) & Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
