The Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) Foundation is seeking a visionary, community-minded Executive Director to advance our mission to enhance public education.
Since 2006, the Foundation has raised over $2 million to fund teacher grants, scholarships, classroom resources, and innovative education programs. As the Executive Director, you will be the driving force behind our growth, serving as the bridge between a supportive community and the students and educators of LAPS.
The Role
The Executive Director serves as the Foundation’s chief administrator and public face. You will oversee a dedicated part-time team (the Marketing Coordinator and the Finance Coordinator) and work closely with the Board of Directors to execute our strategic plan. This is a multifaceted role requiring a blend of strategic fundraising, community engagement, and organizational management.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Fundraising: Lead efforts to grow the organization’s impact through donor cultivation, grant writing, and managing major annual fundraising events.
Community Advocacy: Build and sustain positive relationships with LAPS administration, local businesses, community partners, and the LAHS alumni network. Partnership: Work closely with the LAPS administration, teachers, and other staff.
Career Technical Education (CTE): Staff the CTE Working Group to review data and information on CTE in schools and to provide recommendations to the LAPSF Board on Career Technical Education initiatives. Organizational Leadership: Oversee daily operations, including budget management, staff supervision, and 501(c)(3) compliance.
Board Partnership: Facilitate Board and committee activities, ensuring transparent communication and effective implementation of Foundation programs. Brand Management: Direct the Foundation’s marketing strategy, including social media, newsletters, and website updates, to keep the community informed and engaged.
Qualifications
Community Connection: A substantial connection to Los Alamos and a deep commitment to the quality of local public education. Nonprofit Leadership: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience (preferably 2 years) leading a nonprofit or similar organization. Fundraising Acumen: Proven experience in fundraising and event management. Exceptional Communication: The ability to inspire diverse audiences and represent the Foundation with integrity and transparency.
Personal Attributes: A self-starter who values humility, lifelong learning, and collaborative problem-solving. Schedule & Benefits Flexibility: 40 hours per week with a flexible daytime schedule. Generous paid time off (20 days per year). Schedule: Requires attendance at 3–4 evening board/committee meetings per month (typically 5:15–6:30 PM) and several weekend events per year.
