What Will You Do

The Nuclear Material Control and Accountability Group (NMCA) is looking for an energetic, customer-focused professional to support the institutional Tamper Indicating Device Program. The TID Program is essential to the detection of theft or diversion of accountable nuclear material. As a TID Administrator, you will be in a mission-essential role contributing to LANL's National Security and Science missions. The successful candidate will have strong attention to detail, ability to use a variety of custom software tools, exceptional critical thinking skills, and the ability to partner with team members and customers to assure TID program compliance. Candidates with material control, security and quality backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

This position will be filled at the Material Control & Accountability Specialist 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

MC&A Specialist 1 ($72,800-$115,400)

  • Ability to track, manage, and deploy TIDs using a variety of software tools (LANMAS, TID Tracker, Excel).
  • Ability to support and conduct training for TID users and custodians; manage TID user/custodian authorization in software databases
  • Ability to understand regulatory requirements with demonstrated ability to follow procedures with strong attention to detail and questioning attitude.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

MC&A Specialist 2 ($87,800-$143,000)

In addition to the MC&A Specialist 1 requirements, this level the key responsibilities are:

  • Working knowledge of material control concepts and principles.
  • Ability to research and identify technical and compliant solutions for physical material control issues.
  • Experience communicating technical requirements to a diverse audience using technical and non-technical methods in formal (e.g. training, meetings) and informal (e.g. written/verbal customer service) environments.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires an Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation. Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or, equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a high consequence regulatory environment.
  • Ability to understand DOE requirements, requirement flow down, and requirement implementation.
  • Advanced skills using MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and ability to use unique software databases.

Training/Certifications:

  • Must have the ability to obtain a Q Clearance for this position.

Work Environment

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time onsite position. The potential exists that this position can support a shift work schedule.

Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Lifting 10-20 pounds, reading vision, distance vision, ability to speak, ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 htz), sitting, walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending.

Work Environment: Access to various facilities will require Personal Protective Equipment and dosimetry.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular Position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
