Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The Program Support Services, Program Assurance and Risk Management (PSS-3) Group supports the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production by implementing an integrated risk management framework across mission-critical programs. We are seeking a Project/Program Risk Specialist (Project/Program Specialist 2/3) to manage risk processes, facilitate workshops, develop dashboards, and provide analysis that supports program scope, schedule, quality, and budget objectives. This position will be filled at level 2 or 3 based on the selected candidate’s experience. This is a regular, onsite role in Los Alamos, NM, with salary ranges as follows:

  •        Project/Program Specialist 2: $87,800 - $143,000
  •        Project/Program Specialist 3: $106,400 - $176,000

Responsibilities for Project/Program Specialist 2:

  •        Manage risk registers, workshops, and mitigation processes for a defined program track or portfolio of mid-sized projects
  •        Plan, schedule, and independently facilitate routine risk identification and analysis workshops with program teams
  •        Build and maintain integrated risk dashboards combining qualitative risk data with schedule milestones
  •        Analyze risk profiles across projects to identify overlapping, systemic, and emerging risks and support monthly performance reporting
  •        Monitor assigned project or program scope and risk performance through analysis, modeling, and reporting
  •        Communicate risk status, trends, and issues to project, program, and line managers
  •        Ensure compliance with Laboratory safety, security, regulatory, and governance requirements

 

Additional Responsibilities for Project/Program Specialist 3:

  •        Plan and facilitate high-stakes risk and alignment workshops with senior internal and external stakeholders
  •        Perform schedule and cost uncertainty risk analysis using Monte Carlo modeling tools
  •        Conduct cross-program dependency mapping to identify cascading impacts on adjacent program milestones
  •        Develop and implement Key Risk Indicators that provide early warning of potential cost and schedule overruns
  •        Translate model forecasts and critical issues into strategic reporting for program leaders and NNSA customers

 

Qualifications:

  •        Project/Program Specialist 2: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  •        Project/Program Specialist 3: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  •        Knowledge of project/program risk management practices, compliance requirements, and critical-path scheduling
  •        Experience with risk management and quantitative analysis tools (ARM, P6, @RISK, Acumen Fuse, or Safran Risk)
  •        Strong facilitation, conflict resolution, report development, presentation, and stakeholder relationship skills
  •        Experience developing risk dashboards and Key Risk Indicators to support program decision-making
  •        Level 3 candidates must demonstrate advanced risk management, scenario modeling, dashboarding, and executive communication expertise
  •        Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance (U.S. citizenship required)

 

Desired Qualifications:

  •        CAPM or introductory risk management coursework for level 2; PMI-RMP, PMP, or CCP certification for level 3
  •        Previous project or program risk management experience
  •        Experience with ARM, @RISK, Acumen, Power BI, SharePoint, Tableau, MicroStrategy, and/or advanced Excel
  •        Experience developing dashboards with a working knowledge of P6 scheduling software
  •        Experience preparing and presenting decision briefings to senior leadership
