About Los Alamos National Laboratory

Located in beautiful northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security.

About the Role

Salary: $128,000 - $215,900

We're seeking a high-performing project controls professional ready to make a strategic impact at one of the nation's premier research institutions. If you've thrived in large-scale DOE or DOD environments and are ready to take your career to the next level, this is your opportunity.

You'll master and elevate LANL's project controls infrastructure while building your leadership footprint across multiple high-stakes programs. This isn't a maintenance role—you'll drive transformation, implementing cutting-edge control systems, processes, and tools that enable mission-critical work across the laboratory.

What Makes This Role Exceptional:

  • Scale & Impact – Oversee project controls for multiple programs supporting national security objectives
  • Leadership Growth Track – Accelerate your development as a strategic leader within our Project Controls organization
  • System Ownership – Shape and implement enterprise-level control systems executed across program management offices
  • Innovation Mandate – Bring your large-corporation best practices and DOE/DOD expertise to modernize our operations
  • Strategic Influence – Partner directly with senior leadership and project management offices
  • This is a career-defining opportunity for ambitious professionals who want to leverage their government contracting experience while expanding their strategic leadership capabilities in a world-class research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Project Controls Leadership – Direct experience in cost engineering (estimating, control, analysis) and scheduling (development, control, analysis), with proven ability to establish project controls criteria and standards
  • Software Expertise – Expert proficiency in Primavera P6, cost processors, and EVMS reporting tools (Cobra, wInsight, or Empower), with advanced knowledge of integrating all project controls system components
  • Technical Knowledge – Deep understanding of engineering and construction management practices, current industry developments, and project controls functions/sub-functions
  • Program Development – Demonstrated success building and scaling programs into reliable, efficient operations, including implementing business practices and automated reporting systems
  • Leadership & Mentorship – Proven ability to lead without positional authority, serve as subject matter expert, mentor diverse teams, set technical direction, and manage customer/stakeholder relations
  • People Management – Advanced experience supervising, training, and administering technical and non-technical personnel at all experience levels
  • Security Clearance – Ability to obtain DOE Q Clearance

Qualifications

Position requires a bachelor's degree and twelve years of experience in project controls, including a minimum four years of related management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Required Skills

  • EVMS & Government Experience – Extensive experience implementing and maintaining EVMS principles compliant with EIA-748 in U.S. Government facilities; prior work with DOE headquarters/field offices or state/federal regulators.
  • Active DOE Q Clearance – Currently holds active clearance.
  • PMP Certification.

While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.
