About the Role

We're seeking an ambitious, forward-thinking Project Controls leader who is ready to make a lasting impact while accelerating their career. This is a rare opportunity to shape project controls strategy, modernize systems, and influence the execution of some of the nation's most complex and high-profile programs.

Working within the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production at Los Alamos National Laboratory, you'll help support the critical national security mission through projects that include plutonium pit production, major infrastructure modernization, nuclear operations, materials management, and other one-of-a-kind DOE/NNSA initiatives. These are projects unlike anything you'll find in the commercial sector.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for Project Controls across complex, mission-critical Laboratory programs.
  • Drive excellence in cost, schedule, forecasting, and performance management while ensuring compliance with DOE, NNSA, and EVMS requirements.
  • Lead the modernization and standardization of project controls systems, processes, governance, and organizational capabilities.
  • Advise senior Laboratory leadership on project performance, organizational risk, and strategic decision-making.
  • Build and develop high-performing project controls teams through subordinate managers, fostering a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Integrate scope, cost, schedule, and technical performance to successfully execute some of the nation's most complex national security projects.

Qualifications

Position requires a bachelor's degree and 15 years of related experience in project controls, project management, engineering, construction management, or related field, including seven years of demonstrated management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Advanced technical certifications, EVMS certifications, project management credentials, and/or graduate-level coursework are desirable.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to integrity, ethical leadership, accountable stewardship, and individual responsibility while fostering collaboration, respect for diverse perspectives, and partnerships across organizations.
  • Proven ability to build trust, gain consensus, resolve conflict, and make cross-cutting decisions that support institutional and organizational objectives.
  • Exceptional leadership capability with a demonstrated record of strategic planning, organizational leadership, operational excellence, and workforce development.
  • Proven success developing programs, implementing effective business practices, managing budgets and financial performance, and building strong customer and stakeholder relationships related to project controls systems and operations.
  • Extensive experience leading project controls, financial, and cost engineering functions including budgeting, cost estimating, cost control, forecasting, financial reporting, and cost and variance analysis.
  • Advanced experience using project controls, scheduling, and financial management systems including Primavera P6, Cobra, Oracle, MicroStrategy, and related LANL reporting applications.

Preferred Skills

  • Active Q Clearance
  • Experience working with the Department of Energy (DOE) at headquarters or field office level, or with state and federal regulators.
  • Experience supporting nuclear operations or production programs in a highly regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory processes and procedures customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.

Pay range and compensation package

$153,600-$266,500

While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.
