As we embark on our mission, we are actively seeking teammates who are eager to contribute to our legacy of eye excellence, a tradition that spans more than 50 years.Position Summary:The Surgical Assistant Student works under direct supervision to support both surgical or sterile processing teams, gaining hands-on experience in perioperative services and instrument sterilization. This role requires provisional certification from an accredited CST or CRCST program, with the expectation of obtaining full certification within six (6) months of employment. Job Duties & Essential Functions:Surgical Support (CST-Aligned):Assist in preparing the operating room and sterile fieldPerform basic surgical scrubbing techniques under supervisionPass instruments and supplies to surgeons and team members during proceduresSupport turnover between surgical cases and adherence to infection prevention protocolsComply with AORN and AST standards of practiceSterile Processing Support (CRCST-Aligned):Clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and traysOperate sterilization equipment in compliance with facility and regulatory standardsMaintain accurate records of sterilization cycles and quality assurance logsEnsure proper instrument handling, tracking, and storageGeneral Duties:Communicate effectively with surgical, nursing, and sterile processing staffFollow HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control regulationsParticipate in ongoing training, evaluations, and clinical supervisionRequired Qualifications:High School diploma or equivalentProvisional certification from an accredited CST or CRCST programRecent completion of an accredited Surgical Technology or Sterile Processing programHands-on experience with basic OR procedures, instrument handling, and sterilization techniquesFamiliarity with aseptic technique, surgical terminology, and infection control standardsExperience using sterilization equipment and tracking systemsPreferred Qualifications:Clinical experience in a surgical or sterile processing settingFamiliarity with surgical instrumentation, aseptic technique, and sterilization processesStrong attention to detail, organization, and communication skillsCertifications or LicensesEligibility to obtain full certification within six (6) months of employment from one of the following:NBSTSA – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (CST)NCCT – National Center for Competency Testing (CST)HSPA/IAHCSMM – Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (CRCST)Work Schedule:Rotating Schedule – including days, evenings, and weekendsSalary Range: $22.00Benefits:We aim to take care of our teammates the same way we take care of our patients.
