Job Description

Position Summary

The Director of the Center for Student Success & Coaching provides strategic leadership for a comprehensive, student-centered support model designed to promote academic success, persistence, belonging, wellness, and career readiness. The Director oversees integrated student support services including academic advisement, success coaching, financial wellness support, housing and residential coordination, student engagement, institutional navigation, and coordinated student care initiatives. Working collaboratively across Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, the Director develops proactive intervention strategies, assessment practices, and holistic support systems that enhance the student experience and support institutional retention and persistence goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the daily operations of the Center for Student Success & Coaching, ensuring effective delivery of integrated student support services.
  • Develop and assess operational procedures, student support practices, and technological systems to enhance efficiency, communication, and the student experience.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate professional staff, including Success Coaches and Associate Directors, while supporting institutional recruitment, retention, and persistence goals.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of the Center for Student Success & Coaching at the LIU Post campus to ensure consistency in student support practices and a unified student experience across campuses.
  • Partner with Admissions, Registrar, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Learning Support Services, Center for Healthy Living, Career Engagement, and other campus offices to support recruitment, enrollment, retention, and student success initiatives.
  • Maintain a working caseload of students by providing holistic success coaching, academic advisement, career guidance, and individualized student support plans.
  • Coordinate proactive outreach and intervention efforts for students experiencing academic, financial, behavioral, personal, or transitional challenges.
  • Support admissions events, orientation programs, transition initiatives, and other activities that promote student engagement and successful integration into the University community.
  • Ensure a high standard of student-centered customer service across all functional areas of the Center.
  • Gather, analyze, and report on student success data, retention trends, utilization of services, and other key performance indicators to inform strategic planning and assessment efforts.
  • Participate in divisional committees, campus-wide initiatives, workshops, and professional development opportunities in support of the University’s mission and student success priorities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned by the Student Affairs Leadership Team (Associate Dean, Assistant Vice President for Financial Aid, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and the Vice President of Student Affairs.)

  • Billing, payment plans, and student account navigation
  • Financial literacy and retention-focused financial interventions

Housing, Conduct, & Student Support

  • Housing and residential student support coordination
  • CARE referrals and student intervention support
  • Student conduct collaboration and restorative practices
  • Student well-being and crisis response coordination

Student Engagement & Belonging

  • Orientation and transition programming
  • Student organizations and leadership development
  • Campus engagement initiatives and traditions
  • Programs designed to foster belonging and campus connection

Career Readiness & Professional Development

  • Career exploration and planning
  • Internship and experiential learning support
  • Career readiness initiatives
  • Graduate and professional school preparation

Specialized Student Support Services

  • First-generation and transfer student support
  • International student coordination
  • Student-athlete and Honors student support collaboration
  • Accessibility referrals and coordinated support services

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required. Doctorate preferred.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, student affairs, enrollment management, or student success leadership.
  • Experience supervising professional staff and coordinating integrated student support services.
  • Strong understanding of student development, retention strategies, holistic student success models, and institutional support systems.
  • Knowledge of academic advisement, financial aid processes, student accounts, case management practices, and student intervention strategies.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, equitable, and student-centered practices.
