What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paddock Judge position at Lone Star Park?
General Definition:
- Supervises all race track activities during training hours.
Essential Job Functions:
- Answers phones
- Takes entries by phone
- Checks for Blinker changes on entries
- Grants or denies permission to change equipment
- Coordinates with Starter on first time starters – gate approvals
- Coordinates with Clocker on first time starters – workout rule – approval to start
- Check program proof for any equipment changes
- Assists with the Draw
- Checks entries for change of equipment (Blinkers etc.) prior to draw.
- Back check weights and eligibility’s / coordinate with Racing Secretary.
- Supervises all activities in Paddock
- Checks equipment and maintains book on every horse racing
- Keeps schedule for post times in paddock
- Schedules training for paddock
- Checks saddle towel number, arm number & head numbers before horses leave paddock
- Supervises saddling of horses & valets in paddock
- Calls Jockey’s to Paddock at appropriate time
- Notifies Stewards of any problems or delays in the paddock
- Notifies trainers of horses that need paddock training
- All other duties as assigned by management.
Education:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 8 years related experience and/or training; or combination.

- Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.
- Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
- Written communication skills in English may also be required.
Training:
- 8 year work related experience and/or training; or combination.
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
- Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency, if applicable to perform the essential job functions
- Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC)
