POSITION DESCRIPTION
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Harbor/Ship Store Attendant supports the daily operations of the marina by assisting boaters, maintaining docks and facilities, and delivering exceptional customer service. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for marina members, guests, and transient boaters. Harbor /Ship Store Attendants are often the first point of contact on the docks and play a key role in the overall guest experience. When not outdoors, the Harbor/Ship Store Attendant will be inside the Ship store assisting customers with purchases, maintaining store appearance, and ensures accurate transactions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Dock & Marina Operations
- Assist with vessel arrivals and departures, including line handling and slip assignments
- Monitor dock areas to ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper vessel mooring
- Perform routine dock maintenance, including cleaning docks, walkways, and common areas
- Assist with fueling operations in accordance with safety and environmental procedures
Customer Service & Guest Support
- Greet and assist boaters, captains, and guests in a friendly and professional manner
- Provide information on marina amenities, policies, and local attractions
- Assist transient boaters with check-in and basic needs
- Respond to guest requests and escalate issues to the Director of Marina Operations as needed
Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Enforce marina safety rules and report hazards or unsafe conditions
- Assist with emergency response situations, including weather events and vessel incidents
- Follow all environmental regulations, including spill prevention and waste disposal procedures
Team Support & General Duties
- Work collaboratively with dock staff and marina management
- Assist with marina events and special activities
- Perform other duties as assigned to support marina operations
Customer Service & Sales
- Greet customers and assist with product selection and purchases
- Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems accurately, including cash and credit transactions
- Answer questions about store products, marina amenities, and services
- Handle returns and exchanges in accordance with store policies
- Perform other duties as assigned to support ship store operation
Other related duties as requested and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma required.
Mandatory Experience/Background: Ability to swim and work safely around water, strong customer service skills and positive attitude, willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and evenings. Strong customer service skills and positive attitude, basic math skills and attention to detail.
Desired Experience/Background: Prior marina, dockhand, or boating experience, basic knowledge of boating and dock safety, CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain) and experience with fueling systems or marina operations. Prior retail or customer service experience, familiarity with POS systems, interest in boating, marine products, or hospitality environments.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for long periods of time, with exposure to the weather elements. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
